I am planning to transfer to UCD in Fall 2013. Unfortunately, I cannot finish the major prereqs for the selective major I am planning to go in. I have resorted to apply as a nonselective major and switching to the major I am planning to go into. Now, I've heard that UCD is very lax on changing majors so it shouldn't be impossible. However, I also heard that it is also very difficult to do so. I don't understand how it is considered difficult. What is the process in changing majors like?! How is it difficult?! Thank you so much

It is difficult because you are a transfer and will most likely be entering as “junior status” so they pretty much expect you to know what major you’re going for. If the major you are applying as is completely different than what you want to get in for you may run into troubles… It is MUCH easier to switch from ex) Mechanical Engineering to Civil Engineering than English to Civil Engineering. Different majors and different colleges within Davis can have various requirements to get accepted and you won’t have those requirements done.

Do some research into the major you want to switch into and see if there’s anything of the sort in other colleges in Davis with lighter requirements that you can complete. If there isn’t, your best shot is to do your best with the courses you have completed and apply, or consider an extra year at CC?

Thanks for the reply!
Yes I meant Fall 2014. So if I were to transfer in a Chemistry or Physics major(both nonselective) , I should be able to switch to an engineering major much easier? I’ve heard that UCD does not screen for nonselective majors so will getting in as a Chemistry or Physics major be MUCH easier than engineering? I assume I will be taking classes at UCD to cover the rest of the prereqs I will be missing for engineering. Will I be able to change majors after that? Thank you for the reply!!
