Is it possible to change what major you applied as? I think I read somewhere that you couldn't but I wanted to make sure.

I don’t think so. You’ll have to wait til you’re accepted.

Ok thanks. Can anyone confirm this?

pretty sure you can’t, give the admissions office a ring just in case(doesn’t hurt to ask since it’s a general question)

I heard somewhere that if you send in an email before they start reviewing applications you can change your major. Unfortunately I think berkeley has started already. And also, do realize that bioengineering will be even harder for you to transfer to if you end up wanting to do it.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate by major at berkeley is, by any chance? Or perhaps just bioengineering?

Any major in the College of Engineering will be harder to get into than a major in the College of Letters and Sciences. If you want to increase your chances on getting accepted, you should consider changing into a major in L&S or maybe College of Natural Resources.

The downside is that it is even harder to switch into the College of Engineering if you decide to switch back to Bioengineering.

you can…

according to https://students.berkeley.edu/myberkeley/myberkeleyapp.asp?preserve=y&todo=cms&id=88#1

In general, it is our policy to allow major changes only within the application filing period. After November 30, you must submit a written request by mail or fax to change your major and/or college/school. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate major or college changes, due to a variety of administrative factors. Please submit your request with an explanation for the change to:

Hello,

This is a very old thread I know but I have the same problem. I applied to computer science under Letters and Science but I wish to switch to Electrical Engineering and Computer Science under their College of Engineering. I was just wondering is it still possible to change the major I am applying to? On their website it says they don’t allow people to change the major https://students.berkeley.edu/myberkeley/myberkeleyapp.asp?preserve=y&todo=cms&id=88#6
but under their school of engineering website they said that people can change the major they apply to until the the November 30th deadline <a href=“Prospective freshman FAQs - Berkeley Engineering”>http://engineering.berkeley.edu/admissions/undergrad-admissions/prospective-freshman-faqs. Which is correct? I am asking because I don’t want their admissions office to think badly of me for asking to change my major.

Thank You!
