Changing your major

I was accepted into the northeastern college of science for biology because I want to do pre-med, but in pre-med your allowed to major in anything so is there a possibility I can switch my major to business before or during my first year?

Congrats on Northeastern
Yeah you sure can change your major before your first year.
Go to your my NEU:[Northeastern University Login - powered by SunGard Higher Education](http://myneu.neu.edu/cp/home/displaylogin)
And if you click on the self-service tab there is a box that says updates and one of the options is Change of Major Request and you just fill out the form.
And that should be it.
Hope they change it for you (:

Wow thanks for the help! I really appreciate it

You really should think it through carefully though… You want to go to med school, but you want to major in business? Don’t get me wrong- business is great and there are plenty of cool jobs in health care that business would be good for. But med school is hard to get into in the first place, so having a great application is really important.

Business is a very very structured program. You take specific classes at specific times, and don’t have too much room for extras. You might be able to squeeze in the bare-minimum for pre-med (bio, chem, orgo, physics, calc… stuff like that) but that’s still a hefty amount of courses and you won’t have the full science range of others (for instance, you probably won’t ever be able to take biochem). Look on the business school’s website and look up the example 4 or 5 year schedules of classes, and see how many electives they give you.

Now, a LOT of people change their mind about med school, so I usually think it’s better to pick a major instead of a future job plan. But if you are really sure you want to go to med school, you should be aware that it will be difficult and (maybe) not possible depending on how many electives you have room for.

Well it is better than majoring in biology and not getting into med school. If I atleast major in business or economics then I can pursue something in that field. I am going to check business school required courses and plan it out.
