<p>yea you can. When you apply you list an 'intended major' what you list for your intended major doesn't really matter.</p>
<p>it is very difficult to change into an engineering major at UC schools. visit the websites of the engineering colleges at the UCs you applied to for more info. "very difficult" means almost impossible, BTW.</p>
<p>Changing your major to engineering at UCLA is even harder than getting admitted to engineering as a freshman (especially for CS/CSE/EE/BioE). You need a 3.50 in the prerequisites and a strong essay explaining your request to change majors. UCB, UCLA and UCSD all have Biomedical Engineering; I don't know about the other UCs, however.</p>
<p>In general, large universities are organized as a number of "colleges" within the university. Such colleges may be named "College of Arts and Sciences", "College of Engineering", "College of Business", and so on. It is not hard to change your major provided you stay within the same "college". Being accepted as an English major or "undecided" and then trying to switch into a highly selective, prestigious "college" within the university can be very difficult.</p>
