Changing your name for college

<p>I really want to change my name before i go to college! does anyone else feel this way or would like to do it. I'm not particularly a huge fan of my name- its not so hard to say where i come from, but i believe that when i go to america people will mispronounce it a lot, and maybe even make fun of me.
I don't actually plan on legally changing my name though..probably just ask everyone to call me a new nickname.
are you also allowed to ask professors to call you by a nickname when you go to university or will they just call you by your first name</p>

<p>I have a couple of friends from China that “adopted” American sounding names. It was simple. They simply say call me “Sue”. It doesn’t require anything legally.
FWIW, my DS has a first name that he never uses. He is prepared each year to have everyone hear it when an unfamiliar teacher does roll call. We always tell him it will come in handy because he can screen calls. If they ask for him by his real name, he can choose to answer or take a message.</p>
