Changing your sleep habits

What is the best way that you guys have found to do this?

Basically I have descended into "Summer Mode" which for me is sleeping from 4:00am to noon.

I was planning to stay up all night today but then I realized that's definitely not a good idea because I will be completely unproductive tomorrow if I did that. So, what alternatives do you suggest in order for me to switch to a more "normal" sleep schedule?

Been trying to figure this out my entire life.

The only way I’ve resolved it is depriving myself of sleep for one night and making it to the next night and falling asleep (quite easily) at the time I desire.

Unfortunately, many times I end up dozing off in the middle of the afternoon for several hours which renders me completely nocturnal.

Maybe you could start reducing the hours. For example, tonight you go to bed at 3am instead of 4am like yesterday, and then you just continue from there. I don’t believe people can adapt automatically, it takes time. Within a few days you should be going to sleep at a more suitable hour.

4 am - 2 pm presently.

I can adjust my sleeping habits in a snap. Circadian rhythm?

One day, just force yourself to get up at seven. As soon as you get up, take a shower and get a coffee. That’s what I had to do last year.

I stay up till two and wake up at seven. Yeah, bad, but if I wake up any later I feel as if like the day has flown by. Set your alarm. After about three days of having it on I get in the habit or waking up at seven.

push your hours forward instead of back

so start sleeping at 7 am, then 9 am, then 3 pm…until you reach your desired goal

that’s what i just did a couple weeks ago.

Okay, i’ve tried staying up all night the last two nights and fell asleep at 8:30AM the first night (well morning) and 5AM the second night. I got 6 hours of sleep both nights so now I am tired. It’s 15min past midnight right now and I am going to go to bed. Let’s see if I can fall asleep and if I can wake up at 9:00 which is when my alarm is set.

^Good luck!

lol my summer sleeping habits are sleeping at 2 am to 10 am. oddly when school starts i sleep at 10:30 pm- 11:30 pm and awake at 4 or 5 am. so basically the sleep early thing doesn’t work for me.

I swear a cycle of my circadian rhythm is longer than 24 hours. even if I go to bed the same time every night, I’ll fall asleep later and later, and then get up later and later. I can kind of hold it off if I use an alarm clock, but then I’m just chronically sleep deprived (which is why I’m able to fall asleep at night). help?

im just sleep deprived. period.

I just force myself to wake up at a certain time everyday, by the fifth or so day of doing this, it becomes habit.

Been doing 4:00 AM - 11:30 AM all summer so far.
I’m a night person…and I’d like to know what on earth to do to get sleep quicker.

I am a night person as well, so I easily will staay up past 4 AM during the summer. I have been getting up a little before 8 AM to volunteer, so I’m productive for 6+ hours, then I just chill. I don’t nap that much, but I have a hard time sleeping at earlier hours unless I’ve worked for like 16-18 hours some day. Even when exhausted from trips, I usually sleep from 1/2 AM—>10-11AM. During the school year, I get about 4-5 hours of sleep.

I actually couldn’t change my sleeping time from school. I still go to bed at like 10:30 to 11:00 and wake up at 7:00 AM. (Better than usual 9 pm to 5 am, but still, weird for a teen huh?)

I guess the best way to sleep is just to slowly move the hours over. So you said 4 to noon. Make it 3 to 11, then 2 to 10, then 1 to 9, then 12 to 8 etc etc. I guess that would be the best way to slowly transition your body and sleep habit. Another way it just to force yourself too. Be really tired that whole day and be kinda miserable. go to bed at 4, and then force yourself to wake up at 7 and then just stay up the whole day without taking an nap. :P
