Channing Bowditch Apartments

Does anyone know anything about these apartments. Berkeley website says transfer students can live there, it looks nice but is it better than live in the dorms (unit 3 transfers)?

Anything on-campus is damn expensive, and my advice would be to stay the hell away.

I've not been into Channing Bowditch but Ive heard they are nice. Good location too. They give priority to people willing to sign a 1 year lease. Other upper division apartments are Unit 2 Wada. I have lots of friends there and they are nice and new too. Around $3300 for a double in a 2 bedroom per semester. Stryker is correct that on campus housing is expensive but there are advantages to being on campus IMO.

i have friends who live there..and benefits are that utilities are covered, it already comes furnished, and they have a person come clean the common areas in the apartment once a week (kitchen, living room). Also, they're only a couple years old, so they're very nice and pretty well-sized.

CA2006, are you saying some students can live there without fulfilling the 1 year lease? What is driving me away from the CB apartments is that I don't intend to stay in Berkeley for the whole summer, and I highly doubt I could rent it out to someone during that time.

I don't have personal experience with CB; I got that info from a transfer friend of mine. I checked the housing website and it says something like that, not clear though...
I don't know if you sublet housing but I have friends staying in Berkeley for the summer that are looking to sublet. Let me know if it can be done.

what are the chances of 2nd year students getting housing for that? i imagine that the CB apts. are very well requested/desired...so i'm guessing i shouldn't even apply for a lease. yes? no?

I'm not sure, given that it will probably give all upper division students preference. There were 2-3 slots available in Wada for 2nd year students last year.

are these upperdiv appartments only for junior/senior or people with upperdiv standing?
