Thnxxxxxxxx!

you have a lot of extracurriculars, but your sat scores are rather low for barnard. try to get them up!

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/585684-chances-ucla-berkeley.html#post1061174161

thnx

i am working on my sat score .. i am taking them again this week ... what score does barnard typically look for?

anyone else wanna chance?

Sheena, short of an admissions person from Barnard coming on here, nobody on these boards is really qualified to "chance" you. I certainly cannot...I am a mom of a Barnard Senior, though and just say from her experience and from being on these boards for several years now that you need to be sure and organize and work your application so that you present yourself as a focused individual with a specific area of interest that makes you a fit for Barnard. And also make sure you have an array of good second choice schools to which you plan to apply. As you know, Barnard is quite competitive...

Best to you!

I know that the average SAT score last year was 2070.

Unfortunately you have no option as to whether or not Barnard sees your SAT II scores. If you send one, you send them all. If you retake an SAT II in an attempt to better your score, what they do (instead of how they treat the reasoning test) is they take the average of your two tests.
Anyways, don't worry. Barnard looks at SAT scores and considers them, but I've been told from several solid sources that other things count more than scores.

I think the median SAT score combined was a 2050, no? It says 2060 on the Barnard website, but they didn't add it up correctly.

i am sure that i cant raise my score upto a 1900 .. by increasing my math score 10 pts .. not to sure about cr.. i think that score was luck .. and writing mb ican

but if the median score was 2050 .. then there were ppl who scored below right? and lets say i am in the low 1900s ... is htat okay?

the median means the middle 50% of their class...so 25% got higher, 25% got lower. It's good to be at the median or higher, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll get rejected if you're below that. plus, Barnard doesn't consider standardized test scores to be the main thing, so you definitely have a shot. I wouldn't panic.

Yeah, don't obsess about just the SAT scores. Write really good essays and emphasize your passion for your ECs and they'll probably be able to look past it.:)

Does anyone want to chance me?:D I said I wasn't going to do it and I know you guys aren't the final judge or anything...but I'm freaking myself out and I just want some opinions.:)

3.85 UW GPA at a very competitive public school, top 10% (school doesn't rank, only deciles)
Hardest possible course load
5 on APUSH exam (only one I could take until this year)

2330 SAT (800 CR, 770 M, 760 W)
800 Math II
790 Bio M
720 USH
720 Chem

National Merit Commended
NHS
National Spanish Exam Honors

Somewhat mediocre ECs (hundreds of hours hours of volunteer work (my passion, topic of 2 essays and I think one of my teachers and my counselor will also mention it), backstage work on many school concerts and shows (my other passion, mentioned in 1 essay and counselor rec), clarinet player since 4th grade, photography (mentioned in essays plus rec from photo teacher), plus a couple of community service clubs, president of one of them, and mentor to freshmen as a junior.) Plus work, but that's not a huge time commitment

All ECs for 4 (or more) years except for my volunteer work which I couldn't start until I turned 16 (liability issues, etc.)

One of my teacher recs should be really good and really helpful (shows personality, etc.), I'm worried the other will be very positive but a bit generic. My counselor loves me and her rec is really good... Also including a rec from my photo teacher to provide another prospective.

No hook really, I'm just a Caucasian girl from a totally overrepresented state and town!

People tell me my essays are excellent, I'm not so sure, but I'm self critical.
What do you think? Do my ECs kill me? Applying ED...

I do have legacy, if it helps... (though not through a parent) And I'm not applying for FA.

Thanks!:)

I think your stats certainly put you in the running and if your essays let the real you shine, then you are good. I do not, by the way, think your ECs are bad....

And the "legacy" thing may not count specifically, if it's not your mom, but it certainly would not hurt you. And your applying for FA or not will make no difference one way or the other for admissions.

But, all in all, I think you have a good shot at admissions....best to you!

Thanks so much! This whole process is so nerve-racking, it's nice to have a bit of reassurance that I actually have a shot!

There are days when I dream of getting in and others when I feel like have absolutely no chance whatsoever and need to prepare myself for the worst...this process is certainly going to make all of us much better at coping with pressure and stress.
