I am a mother of senior student, and wandering his chase to get in.
Please advise.

How does your kid get 4.70 weighted GPA with only 2 AP courses? I think not all honor classes are weigthed

Hi iriss
My GPA calculation might be wrong.

He took 10G
H.English 10
*AP World History
H. Algebra2
H. Biology
Japanese2
Team Sorts (Tennis/Golf)

11G
*H. Contemporary Composition / American Literature
*AP USH
*H. Trig/Math Analysis
*H.Chem
Japanese3
Intro. Art

He got all A except 1 semester of APUS was B.

  • courses are approved for extra honors credit.
I understand that UC GPA calculating only UC approved courses, and up to 8 semesters extra point would be added.

So what is his correct GPA?

I get 4.32, but that’s worth what you paid for it ;-)

Thanks GoldenWest.

GPA calculation is some how complicated.
Do you think that he could get in Computer Science major on these colleges?

I am by no means an expert. I think this is what you should go with. I think the main issue is the low SAT score. It will be difficult for anyone to give you a realistic chance.

Hopefully, there is someone at your son’s high school that can help with the GPA calc. and other questions. I agree that his SAT score is low relative to these grades and for the schools he is applying to. My kid has the opposite issue; good SAT, lower GPA!

Thank you for responses.

Is it a problem if he has low SAT score, even he has goo ACT score?
Or ACT 29 is still too low?

I guess that computer science major is popular and competitive.
Someone mentioned that Cal Poly SLO Engineer average ACT 31.
So does he need at least ACT 31 to get in any Computer major?

Cal Poly prefers the ACT so if that is a higher score (I am more familiar with SAT), then the ACT will be more important. All you can do is try, but be realistic about the chances. ;-(
