Chaplain on floor

Soooooooo ya...this sucks. I'm an incoming freshman and I get stuck on one of the floors with the Chaplains. I totally wouldn't care if it weren't for the fact that a) I'm Village C East (so there are barely any freshman as is) and b) I'm on the top floor, so as opposed to having like 30 other freshman on my floor, there are only 8 others. That aside, should I worry about having a chaplain on my floor? I mean not only am I far from religious, but I also like to have fun (party and such) and I don't really want him/her being like the killer of such activities. Am I overreacting?...

The chaplains are actually pretty cool people. They won’t constantly be knocking on your door to sermonize simply due to your close proximity to their living quarters. Some of the chaplains on campus are married, have small children/babies and won’t tolerate any shenanigans around their kids, and rightly so.

You won’t have a problem finding any number of parties on campus. Believe me, it is much better to get out and go to the party than to have the party going on 24/7 next to you.

As to overreacting, I guess it depends greatly on what type of partying you were planning on doing, with what sort of contraband and how often. Yes, they will put a stop to a rave going on every night in your room. No, they probably won’t shut down any pre-gaming festivities, unless you are careless and acting like idiots.

I’m on that floor too! And right in front of the chaplain.

“should I worry about having a chaplain on my floor? I mean not only am I far from religious, but I also like to have fun (party and such).”

Trust me - there is no way you will be able to keep up with the Jesuits when it comes to partying. They are not there to keep you in line . . .

This seems like a good time to point out that the vast majority of chaplains are not Jesuits. Some aren’t even Catholic.

DZlep - at Georgetown?

^glido dzleprechaun is absolutely correct…there are chaplains of various denominations living on campus as well as Jesuit priests.

Yup. See for yourself - their religious affiliations are listed: [Georgetown University: Campus Ministry](Chaplains and Staff | Campus Ministry | Georgetown University)

HH: If your chaplain is a jesuit, you have no worries. I can’t speak to any of the other clerics who might be living in the dorms, but give them a chance. Best of luck.
