Okay so I hadn't even really heard of LMU when I was applying to colleges in the fall, trust me I'm kicking myself right now for not applying, cause I would probably rather go there than Chapman. I'm going into Film Production at Chapman University, since I got rejected at USC, but my plan is to transfer to USC for my sophomore year... and i've been thinking that if that doesn't work out (again which would totally suck) would it be a good idea to also consider transfering to LMU? Does anyone know if it would be a lot more difficult to transfer into their production program? I've looked at their statistics and my stats are pretty much well above their averages, but I just want to make sure... I really want to get out of Orange County and LMU seems like a great school right in the heart of LA. any thoughts?

I really think Chapman has more long-term potential, film program-wise. I guess it depends what you're looking to get out of your experience but, I think you said it all: LMU just isn't well known enough, and isn't focused enough on film to be the gateway to Hollywood that Chapman is rapidly on its way to becoming.

That said... please, please, please accept me, LMU!!

LMU is fairly well known and has an incredibly strong programs, although I don't particularly think that their production major quite is. In their film school, their writing program is probably by far the strongest.

I don't know much about the film department cause I'm in business but as far as schools go LMU is much better and more well known than Chapman. I had a friend who transfered out of Chapman and said it was the best decision of his life. He hated the OC vibe down there and loves LMU's campus and academics more. Our B-school is more rigorous. As far as film, can't help too much there but LMU does have a great student run TV channel. The school as a whole is on a whole level higher than Chapman.

Actually no not really RedRaider Baz, Chapman is superior when it comes to film, it is much more well known, maybe in other departments LMU may be better i.e. social life, location, and business. But as far as film goes Chapman is much more well known and has a lot of connections in the film industry.

5 years later Lmu is gaining notoriety in the public, as it already has it with the industry.

Just curious, where did you decide to go?

^ Looks like wherever s/he, went, s/he ended up transferring to USC

oh thanks, guess everything worked out for them in the end!

Looks like it was Chapman

“sorry to bash on chapman so much i mean chapman is beautiful, and a lot of people really love it here, i’m not one of them haha, so visit both campuses first. another thing to keep in mind is internships, i have an internship in beverly hills now, another intern is from usc, but basically i have a 2 hour commute with traffic which really sucks. so if you’re at usc you’re in LA which is basically where ALL the best film internships/jobs are.”

"another thing to keep in mind- chapman is really really trying to be like usc. i always find it funny that there are always a lot of bitter sounding jokes that compare chapman and usc made by professors, esp. at the film school, and at orientation they were always going on and on about how much better chapman is than “that other school” (usc). i also find it strange that the book i have to use for my screenwriting class is written by a usc grad/professor, and the books i use in my cinematography class are the same ones i used for my cinematography class at usc… that’s one thing about chapman i don’t like, i always hear how at other universities the students read books written by their own professors… that doesn’t happen here much that i know of. another coincidence… chapman has just added another sorority: Kappa Alpha Theta (which i hear is one of the big sororities at USC). basically it seems like chapman is now what usc used to be, university of spoiled children, usc isn’t really like that anymore, every year their incoming class is better than the last and now chapman is trying to emulate that trend. "

wow, they sound really bitter. I actually got in to both and felt usc had that “high and mighty” vibe more than chapman so i chose chapman which seemed more firendly and progressive vs usc’s attitude that they r good enough as is. it really is a matter of opinion but she makes chapman sound terrible and its not. i would have liked a more objective analysis of chapman than what she wrote :/
