<p>Chapman U or UC Irvine for Music Composition? What are the differences or emphasis, style, professors. 20th century music vs. classics</p>
<p>Sorry, I don’t know the answer. But check out UCSD if you’re interested in 20th Century composition. Many of the current crop of professors all over the place studied there - albeit in grad school.</p>
<p>My S has a friend who is a violinist at Chapman and she’s very happy - but I know nothing about their composition department.</p>

<p>Not really the 20th century. A little more traditional.</p>
<p>Check out CSU Long Beach. They seem to have a more traditional composition department. (I’m assuming you’re interested in Southern California?)</p>
