Hi Guys and Gals,
Didn't see a forum like this opened so I thought i'd make one! I am in my sophomore year at a JC and looking to transfer for spring. Though I am curious to see if any of you would think I could get in with a 3.8 (current GPA) going into the Communications department. I would love some feedback. Thanks :)

hey im going to transfer in the spring of my sohpohmore year too (fresman right now). can i ask how many transferrable units you have right now when appplying?

That’s awesome! Right now I’ve completely 33.50 credits, but this semester I am taking 15.25 credits. So by the end I will be at 48.75. How many credits do you have?

thanks for the reply :). im taking 17 units right now (14 transferable) so im hoping to take 15 units next semester and take 3 units in the summer so ill probablhy hav around 31-32 ish transferable. was your hs gpa good? cause mine was crap (2.8 lol, yah i know) and one of the chapman counselor told me that ur college gpa will count more than hs if you have 30 transferable. so im hoping he is right. also have any language class?

my high school gpa was ok. i kind of had a bumpy junior year but i graduated with an overall 3.3 gpa and my last semester senior year with a 4.0! well if the counselor said that I hope ill be ok to transfer. yes, i am taking an Italian language class! are you planning on taking a language class as well?

yeah spanish and i have to take 3 semesters lol, plus i took it at my hs so i should be okay with the basics. my community college counselor told me i should take 60 to get the lower division out the way thus transferring out longer than 1.5 years, but im fine with taking some lower division classes at chapman to get out of cc faster lol. any ec’s you got going?

what are ec’s?

extra curriculars?

oh haha well right now I am working part-time and was previously an assistant manager at a clothing store…and i’m only 20. Though I am part of two clubs at my JC’s. It’s somewhat hard to get involved within my JC because no one is enthusiastic about anything and won’t start up a club.

Hey guys,
I applied to Chapman for spring 2012. I’m in my first semester of college and it just isn’t working out so i’m trying to make the switch. I think I have a decent shot at getting in, but maybe i’m just being hopeful. FYI im coming from Purdue University, applying as a math major.
HS GPA: (3.06) – 9th(1.89), 10th (3.33) 11th(3.23) 12th(3.76)
SAT:(1970) – CR(660), MA(720), WR(590)
College GPA:(N/A) – 17 credits in progress
EC’s-- Math club (11th,12th, FResh) --Math team (12th) and some community service

I took a college level course over the summer at UCLA , got an A and sent the transcript cuz they asked for it. I’m not sure that really is going to make much of a difference though since it wasn’t a very difficult course and it is only 1 class. Anyway, Good luck to you guys.

Its always good to be hopeful! I know a couple people who go to Purdue are you from the chicago-land area and just wanting to come to california or are you a california native missing the sun? I think you will have a good chance, keep me posted :)

Haha. Yea, I’m from California and I do miss the weather. Essentially I went to purdue because I wanted to be an engineer but my focus has changed towards math and I found that I want to study a broader range of topics such as economics and philosophy which isn’t so easy at such a big school. I was wondering if you guys have gotten any login info in the mail to check your app status or w/e.

Since they’re going up in the Rankings they’re raising their requirements too. It doesn’t look too good if you’re trying to get it right now.

Not too much activity in here. I guess not that many people are trying to get in for spring 2012?

i guess so. i’m trying to apply next spring so ill be active here.

I submitted on 10/15 and the file was complete by 11/14. When will Chapman send off the decisions? I’m an international student so they will notify me via email. But since another school requires to pay deposit by 12/1, I’m worried I won’t know before that…Will Chapman look at the Fall grades and decide? Or it doesn’t matter as long as it accepts me and I don’t fail any course?

BTW, I am at the first semester of Freshman year and I’m taking 12 credits now

Sugarsol, As a parent of a Chapman student, I would suggest you to contact the admissions directly before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, especially if you need to know before Dec. 1. Also, keep an eye on your WebAdvisor account for any updates. Good luck!

OCELITE,
Thanks!!! I might call them next Monday (11/21). Hopefully they can give me the decision before 12/1.
Is you son/daughter a Dodge College student?
I’m currently a film major at Univ of Texas (Austin) and I’m apply for their Creative Producing Program.

Also, anyone apply for the producing here?

Sugarsol,
You’re welcome! Yes, I have a sophomore student at Dodge College. You’ve come to a great place for the CP program, or any film related majors. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the programs at Dodge, one of the best film schools in the world.

Here’s an older thread from one of the creative producer students.
