I'm having my acting audition very school at Chapman University and I was wondering if anyone has gone through the experience that could let me know what goes on and how the audition is set up? Is it like NYU's?

Thanks.

Thanks.

My D auditioned for Chapman in mid October. It was the first audition of the year…and was incredibly laid back and casual!

We arrived about 20 minutes beforehand. There were 3 other families there already. A very nice student, who was a graduating BFA Acting major came about 10 minutes later to check everyone in. She asked each student what material they would be performing and verified some basic info.

The waiting area outside of the theatre was small…really just a hallway with a bench or two …so thankfully there weren’t too many. One thing that was interesting was that none of the kids who came while we waited were local. i expected them to largely be from California. Everyone was from Chicago or further east, except us!

The gal checking folks in told us they see about 400+ kids for about 30-35 spots…she didn’t know how many girls versus boys. I have heard varied reports on how many they see vs. accept and have never taken the time to confirm it with the school.

The audition itself lasted about 20 minutes. My D did had a short interview first, followed by doing both pieces…she then was asked a couple of questions about why she wanted to attend Chapman. Both gentlemen who interviewed/audiitoned her were friendly, polite and she felt all in all it was very low stress!

Coincidentally, she just found out today that she was accepted there! We head to Chicago for a series of Acting and MT auditions this week end, so it will likely be a while before she decides about Chapman.

Enjoy your time there. The campus is lovely and the town is really sweet too. Seems like a nice place to be for 4 years!

Sorry for the late response! Thank you so much this was very helpful.

I went to Chapman University, was a BFA Screen Acting major then transferred to NYU. So I know both situations. Chapman is very casual and laid back. Very friendly. Your auditioning for the BA program and then at the end of your freshman year you audition for either the BFA Theater Performance major or BFA Screen Acting major.

Please though, don’t put Chapman and NYU in the same category; NYU: Tisch is far superior and is a lot harder to get into.
