Chapman

Has anyone else heard from Chapman? My son applied early action and auditioned 1/21 at NY Unifieds. It’s one of his top choices along with Cal Arts. Just curious. Thx

My friend (Screen Acting, which is what I presume your son is as well) got her rejection last night.

S received his rejection via email last night

@mtmaybe and @Naevia - when did they audition? She also checked her portal and nothing had changed.

@MTmom2017 my friend auditioned Tuesday or Wednesday (?) of Chicago unifieds

My S auditioned at NY unifieds

D auditioned in Chicago too - on Tuesday. She didn’t feel like it went well!

My D auditioned at NY Unifieds last year and although it was one of her top choices at the time, she felt the audition was strange. Another girl we met coming out said the same thing. Auditors were not very engaging and although she was applying to the Screen Acting program, they never put the kids on camera like Pace does. There was definitely one girl who was accepted right after Unifieds…I know that because it was posted on our coach’s FB page, but my D and others waited quite a while for the decision. When it finally came it was WAITLIST. Letter was not like any other waitlist letter I’ve seen or heard about from a theater program. It was a generic academic WL letter stating how many thousands applied for however many spots. No mention of the audition or theater department at all. I found the whole thing very odd. She never did come off the WL either. So now I find out that the on campus audition lasts all day! It seems very similar to UCLA’s audition…Parent Info session, Movement, Monologues and scene work with a partner. Had I known this I would certainly had flown out there with my D. Now knowing that, it would seem very difficult to get into Chapman from a 10 minute Unifieds audition when they are seeing kids on campus from 8am-4pm!

My son was accepted ED to Chapman in December and I just wanted to clarify a couple things. The on-campus audition is definitely more involved. It runs from about 8:30 to 1 (not 4 pm), and there are multiple components to it. They definitely get to see more of the kids at an on-campus audition, and you probably demonstrate more interest by auditioning on-campus. My son did say that the auditors were very stoic and he could not read the room at all. As for early action, your application could start out as early action but if you did not choose the first on-campus audition date the first weekend in December, your application would no longer be early action and you would find out with everyone else in the spring. I hope all your kids get good news soon!

Any word on the status of Chapman notifications? My son keeps checking the portal but there has been no change.

Have you received UNCSA financial info yet?

@oaktree99 - Did you mean to post that last comment here? It seems like there’s been no news about Chapman this whole week. @Mcgeok, has your son heard back?

No I did not LOL — one was supposed to be a message and the other was supposed to be posted in the Chapman thread. I obviously don’t know what I’m doing.

…and this IS the Chapman thread. Again, no clue what I’m doing. Should stick to lurking!

@Oaktree99 It’s fine - don’t worry about it! I hope your son hears something soon. Did he apply for both Screen Acting and Theatre? When/where did he audition?

Both programs, but prefers screen acting. He auditioned in Chicago the second day of Unifieds.

@Oaktree99 Chapman’s tumblr admission page is teasing that regular freshman decisions are coming out today and they just answered a question re: Screen Acting and confirmed the rest of Screen Acting would go out with regular decisions. So, if regular decisions do go out today then the rest of Screen Acting will too. Ha! Does that make sense?

Thank you! I will have him check the portal and email

D got a no from Chapman via her portal. Not surprised - very odd audition.

S was accepted Chapman Theatre. He’s excited! This was a new college added to the list late last Summer. He’s beginning to narrow down choices and we’ll be making visits soon.
