Some of the supplemental forms have character limits on the short essay/essays. Is there anyway to get around this limit? For the common app itself u can go a little over, but the supplements don't allow any extra characters. This is really a hassle for the short answers cus the limits are so small.

If you upload you can go over the character limit. Try not to go too far over because they have the limit for a reason, but I see no problem with going to like 1007 characters or something if the limit is 1000. The character limits are much more difficult to work with than the word limits…

I’ve been wondering this too. There are some places in the Common Application supplements that give only 500 characters space. There is no way to upload a file instead, and it’s unnerving, needing to explain why I went for this or that college in such a small space, and still make it stand out.

They have the character limit because they want you to be concise. If you can’t upload, cut it down so it will fit (and even if you can, cut it down to within a few words/characters of fitting). They have a limit for a reason…

I know, I know sigh. I’m just whining, I suppose.
Thank goodness for hereditary editing skills. Shouldn’t be too [too] hard to cut down my things so they still sound good.

We got to thinking of the limits as a blessing in disguise; nobody gets to – or has to – write more than that. Much better than the “at least 250” with no upper limit. What does that mean??

That’s a good point actually…

I’m wondering about this, too. I made two different versions of my essay. One of them has 1042 characters and one has 1007. Would either of them work…? I feel that my 1007 character essay is not nearly as good as my 1042 character essay… HELP PLEASE I need an answer
