Character Recommendations

I searched for this a bit in this forum and couldn't find anything specific.

I have a tennis coach who I would like to get a recommendation from, as I know he would do a great job as he knows me very well and writes well. He is not a teacher, though, so I am not sure what the protocol is for "character recommendations" as his would be.

Is there a unified way of doing this, such as what he should write and length?

I am using the commonapp, would there be a way to do this within that?

Thanks

Anybody?? …

Well… recommendation forms are supposed to be from teachers of academic subjects, unless the college says that they accept additional (usually 1) recommendation letter. Stanford is one of those schools, I don’t know which ones you’re applying to.
Did they actually word it “character recommendation”? B/c i’ve never heard of a school that termed it that way. I guess it depends on what college you’re going to.

Supplemental recommendations are totally legitimate, as long as you think that they add something TRULY unique to your application that will be absolutely absent from your teacher recommendations. Check school websites for specific instructions, but I believe that as long as your coach simply sends a letter that CLEARLY identifies you, what school you go to, probably your birthdate, etc to the address that you are having your teachers send their recommendations, it will go to the right place.

Thanks a lot.
