Character shoe advice needed, please

I thought I'd stop in here to ask for some advice since it's time to replace ancient character shoes.

D is a VP major, so they must be black, ankle strap and 2.5-3 inch heels. They're not really needed for dancing, but there is a lot of standing around in opera so comfort is paramount!
She's tried on Capezio Theatrical Footlights, and there is the Bloch Chord model and So Dancas.

She's worn the same kind for the past 7 years- the dance store where we used to live had it's own proprietary brand- so I'd really appreciate any advice you have to offer. The local store here only carries Capezio- does anyone have favorite on-line sites for these?

Thanks in advance!

My D is MT, so alot of movement is required, and although we haven’t invested yet, a pair of LaDucas are in our future…they are pretty pricey but from what I hear, they will last her a very long time and are very comfortable. Don’t know if you wanted to spend that much, but they would more than likely last your D a very long time…anyone else who may know more, please chime in. :)

LaDucas are known for their comfort and longevity, but I don’t believe that they make an ankle strap model any more, unfortunately.

My D is also MT. We invested in LaDuca’s last fall, she is very happy with them so far.

My D loves her Bloch shoes but she has a wide foot so these are better for her.

We have the La Duca’s for my DD. There is a bit of sticker shock, hers were $175 but she has had them for years. She is a dance major but wore them all through high school. They are very comfortable and very flexible which is why they are prefect for dancers and musical theatre majors. She has good tap shoes too and those were about $225they were her Sweet 16 birthday present along with a trip to NYC to get them fitted.

LaD’s are awesome but I’m thinking they are overkill for MezzoMama’s daughter who is a voice major in an opera, not musical theatre, program. Good, comfortable character shoes are available for around $50-$60. Cheaper ones can be had for $20-$30 but I don’t recommend them for those who are spending hours on their feet.

Bloch makes a split-flex shoe that is very comfortable and in the $60 range.

Capezio dance shoes are really the classic character shoe- great for dancing and walking around. Although, if you’re looking to have taps on your character shoes, then Bloch dance shoes also work well. You can sometimes find Capezio and Bloch shoes on sale online in the $30-$60 range.
