on my charges it says I owe 3000 and sum dollars but the due date is in the future what does that mean?

That means they’ll update it with an actual due date, probably within a month or so.

August 26th ~ Billing statements available on portal
September 15th ~ Financial Aid disbursement
September 16th ~ Fall Registration & Housing Fees Deadline

Mine says ‘Future’ too and I have no clue how to use my financial aid to pay the bills (to know what I still owe). X:

Likely you’ll just wait for awhile and your financial aid will automatically apply. I’m not certain about the process though.

You can pretty much ignore it until they put the charges on the actual statement. The “future” thing just means they’ve got things queued up and ready to go.

Does anyone know how cal grant works? My friend at Berkeley says that she had to pay first hand, and Cal Grant will reimburse her.

But since I know that berkeley is a semester system, do you know if it is the same for us? Or will we get the check firsthand? Also, will we get the whole amount? Or will they separate it by quarters?

A few months ago I had a bill to pay and it said it was due in the “future” and then last month I got an email saying that it was due this month so it probably means that the date when the bill is due will be added/changed later on.

So I checked my portal and I saw this for Fall 2010 Quarter:

Outstanding Charges & Deposits 8,969.67
Pending Financial Aid: 8,969.67
Total Due: 907.67

What D: ! I thought the “Outstanding Charges & Deposits” were from the Estimated cost of attendance, which included books/personal-expenses/etc… so I thought I was fine. Since I paid for my books without their estimated cost OR by using my financial aid.

So what happened? ;___;

I’m not sure I understand your question, Cherry - could you clarify a bit?

Books and personal expenses may be included in the estimated cost of attendance, but obviously you’re not going to pay for those via the portal. AFAIK the only parts of the estimated cost which you’ll pay through the portal are the fees and housing.

Ohh, I see. Thank you! D:

I’m in a pickle. I have 907 $ more to pay, but the only loan I have left is for 400 dollars. Where am I going to get the 500$?

I did win a scholarship ($250 one and a $2000 one) but the $2000 scholarship pays in different, smaller chunks… and my High School has yet to send that check yet to the school. Should I call financial aid office and ask what I should do?

Yeah, I’d call the aid office. Failing that, could your parents help you, or could you get a job to pay the remainder?

EDIT: Sorry, my pending Financial aid: 8,062
^I made a mistake while copy/pasting

Which I don’t understand…

My parents can’t help me at all. I divided each grant and loan I have so far, divided each by 3, and added them together to get $8833. I don’t know* how they calculated financial aid to get 8,062.

The only sources I have left are:
- Scholarship #1: This one is will be paid $250 directly to the school
- Scholarship #2: $2,000 BUT the reward information says it “will be divided into two or more equal payments” (which, I have no idea how much…)
- One Federal Direct Unsubsidized Ln for $451 that I didn’t accept (yet?)

So if I add $250 into the balance of $8833, I get: $9083. Which is more than enough to pay for it? Why is UCSC’s pending financial aid only $8,062? Am i calculating it wrong?

There’s a page on the portal that breaks down the origins of all the expenses.

Honestly, I don’t know how financial aid works. I don’t think it’s supposed to cover your entire tuition necessarily; have you looked into loans?

I have the same problem. the total i owe adds in my orientation fee which was supposed to be deferred and the USHIP healthcare. i got that waived but still is added on to the total qtr price -___-
Cherry, my portal tells me i owe 907.67 o.0 i’ve accept 28,000 in financial aid and two loans.
i’m pretty sure i should have more pending aid

Yeah… hopefully, it’ll update. >.< Cal Grant isn’t showing up on the page (pending financial aid) either!

Does anyone know when the deadline to accept/decline rewards is??

the cal grant doesn’t go toward qtrly charges. they told me that the cal grant money is for books. so you’ll receive 500 a qtr for books.
the pending financial aid doesn’t inculde the AC grant thats why the pending aid is off.

Not all CalGrant money is for books. My CalGrant covers the largest portion of my quarterly tuition, wayyyy more than any other source of funding. If I recall correctly, it depends on which CalGrant (A, B, C) you’re eligible for. You must be talking about the “access” portion of CalGrant, which is typically used for books and other expenses.

I got cal grant B, don’t we get the money directly rather than being included in the pending aid breakdown?

^That’s what I heard too.

I have Cal Grant B - Access… but what if I need this money for tuition/housing fees too?

I used to have Cal Grant B, but I don’t know why they change it to Cal Grant A now

Cal Grant B from what I’ve read only covers books and personal expenses for your first year. In subsequent years you can use it for tuition fees and such. But what I don’t understand is how they give you this money. Are they suppose to send you a check or something?
