Charging for a lime?

I love chicken wings but some of you in the group need to rally together and suggest a step up a variety of food places at least once a month!!!

Well, they are very good to us. They hold a large table for us AND we go in there sweaty and gross after running. There are only so many places that are willing to do that, and if we went to a variety of places, we wouldn’t receive the level of care/service we do by always going to the same spot.

You don’t have to get chicken wings - they have pizza, sandwiches, salads, fries, etc.

Side bar: Due to rapidly rising prices to dine out, I’m wondering if our socializing will move in the direction of our parents. They rarely ate at a restaurant, except for very special occasions. Dinner parties were much more in vogue - usually on a rotating basis.

This might be a good topic for a new thread.

Yup. This question has been asked. Will the Millenial Subsidy disappear?

Great idea for a new thread!

Yes, entertaining at home. But it doesn’t have to be like my parents era. I remember my mother in a tizzy days before a ‘big’ event. The good china, the ironed linen table cloth, the polished silver. And the BIG multi course meal. It was so stressful.

(Yes, they had friends who would come over in the evening, they’d make a pitcher of adult beverages and just snack whatever).

I see my kids (27 and 30) simply not going out to eat
unless there is no time to cook and then it’s dinner from a local place and they do pick-up. Eating out as a regular part of life - isn’t part of their life. DS works at Big Company that provides meals - so his in office days are catered :). And he can bring his dinner home - plentiful enough to share with SO.

The costs of drinks is just silly. A frufru cocktail with splashes of moonbeam and star dust can run one $20.

When the kids were little - it was a PITA to put a quick and healthy meal on the table. With all the pre-mixed and washed salads, microwavable veggies in their own bags, untold options in the freezer section of TJ’s or Costco
putting a good meal on the table is pretty darn easy. And while one cooks
the other is putting the moonbeams and star dust in a blender

DS and SO put a weekly menu on their fridge. That way whoever is in the best position puts the meal together.

DD LOVES to cook. She has two under two at home. When DH and I visit she STILL cooks. Has the right supplies at her finger tips.

We, mom and dad, do treat them occasionally, but going out is more of a pain that it used to be.

Both of my kids have reduced eaten out, one doesn’t even do Doordash, she just picks them up if she has to order food. They also reduce ordering alcoholic drinks too. I think that’s a good overall, healthier habits.

Both of my kids did away with any delivery services like Doordash during the pandemic to support all of their money going to their local favorite restaurants.

D1 and her bf cook a lot while D2 (lives a mile from us) likes to come to our house for dinner several times a week. H and I have not been eating out as much because many of the places we like are short staffed and it’s just not as good anymore. I can put a great meal on the table for much less than going out and H mixes a fantastic margarita!

Both of my kids and SO are on a diet during weekdays and eat out on weekends. During the week it’s mostly salads or some other low calories food they cook at home to control calories.

This is what I noticed recently, the quality of food decreased. It’s down right awful.

My parents and grandparents ate out more than occasionally, but usually at Howard Johnson’s after church or Friendly’s. My grandmother loved to ‘go for a ride’ on Sundays and that almost always meant stopping for lunch at some restaurant, but more ‘diner’ type than 4 star.

My father loved to eat out, and I’d say as a family we went about once a month, usually on Sunday (family of 9, so not cheap). If we didn’t go out, we’d have a big meal for lunch at home and then order pizza for dinner (Lassie, College Bowl, Wonderful World of Disney, Smothers Brothers- we were creatures of habit). Pretty exciting.

Looking to book a hotel for an upcoming trip. The hotel room is $189/night but parking is $45/night. :grimacing: Thank goodness we read the small print!

Oh yeah
parking fees and resort fees! If you want a chair on the beach under an umbrella, that will be $40 for half a day. Paddleboard rental? $50. Kayak ride? $80. All of this crap makes $$$ Four Seasons where it was all included look like a bargain!!

The Hotel Del has a mandatory daily fee of $50 which covers:

Daily Mandatory Charge will be added to the room rate and includes: Internet access; beach yoga, sculpt-tone, & meditation classes; Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, & YouTube streaming; discount tickets for USS Midway, San Diego Zoo, & whale watching. Also includes $15 Historical Preservation Fund charge.

And parking:

Overnight Parking – Self-parking in the North Parking Garage is $50 per night. Valet Parking is $75 per night.

So every single day that you’re there, you’re paying to go to the USS Midway, the zoo, whale watching, doing beach yoga, and the other classes. Every single day you’re paying for that. That’s absurd.

You’re paying for the opportunity to get reduced price tickets for off site attractions. And yes, on-site classes. Don’t ask what they charge for loungers and cabanas and s’more fire pits etc. if you have to ask, you shouldn’t be staying there :anguished:.

Not here so much. The plumbing company now adds the credit card fees they incur to your invoice if you pay that way or you can pay by check, as does the pool company.

The door and window company also asked to be paid by check or credit card fees would be added.

Not here. . Keeping the cc on file with the place that does HVAC/electrical/plumbing ( merger of several 50 plius year old businesses) actually gets you a discount.

Frontier is now charging $2.99 if you want a paper copy of your bill. We just changed to auto pay using our credit card to avoid that charge. And we save $10 monthly on each cell phone using auto pay
.same way.
