Charley Wootan Grant 2012-13

I know it is early July, but when people start hearing, they should tell CC. I submitted mine a little late in the game, but I still have my fingers crossed. It'd be a great alleviation for my tuition bill right now.

I agree! I have my fingers crossed too… this is my first year applying and did not know how crazy competitive it is. I sent mine in about a week after it opened, thinking I was ahead, but apparently that might be too late! Regardless, good luck cfl927! (Going to check my mailbox now!)

I applied and sent in my application the first day! I haven’t received anything in the mail though :/

If I had known about this sooner, I would’ve mailed it the first day, but my school sent me an email about it, and I sent my app in the same day, although it was two days after the application was available.

Ugh I hate the wait. Has anyone received a package?

Today is Friday July 6th and I haven’t received anything? Has anyone received a letter?

People who received it last year didn’t receive notification until the 8th or 9th, and the July 4th holiday was on a Monday. Since July 4th was a Wednesday this year, I’m guessing it will come around the same time.

But really the wait is KILLING ME.

Try being out of town for the next two weeks…that kind of wait will kill a person, especially when you need just a few grand to meet fall semester’s bill.

Do you have to have a certain EFC number to receive this grant?

Hmm. I’m not sure. My EFC went up by a few grand. It’s mostly first-come, first served, but I think they take that into consideration. I don’t know. It’s the first time I’ve applied for this grant.

Ok because my EFC number is high, and I didn’t want that to interfere with me receiving this grant.

I am not sure about the actual EFC but I watched the webinar online and it is really helpful and it answers a lot of questions. I have never applied for this grant either. But what it said about the income was that about 60% of people who had an income (or your parents) of $30,000 or less received the grant. And the other 40% were people who had an income (or your parents) of around $40,000 or less.

What date did everyone turn in their application? I can’t remember the exact date when I turned mine in… I hope I did it soon enough.

I feel like that would suggest an EFC near 0 with a combined income that low. I turned my application the same day I heard about it, April 19th, and I’m pretty sure the app was released 2 days before that.

It is not an EFC of 0 because for the 2012-2013 school the government changed the qualifications to meet and EFC of 0. In the past years if you had an annual income of $32,000 or less your EFC would automatically be 0. And now it is if you have an annual income of $23,000 or less then your EFC will automatically be zero.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. It’s funny. We’re forced by law to attend school one way or another up until the 12th grade, and then when we want to continue, we have to pay or take out loans. Well, I would really appreciate any money if I do get the grant. I’m in my second year, and besides the $84 dollars in loans, I have yet to take out any large amount of loans yet. Tuition and fees are going up, and the economy is just hard on a lot of us. Well, I wish us all luck.

Good luck everyone! I received the grant last years and I got my notification on July 12th so I think we should be hearing something. Last year my EFC was 02381 and I received the $4100. My EFC is less this year (01475) so any amount will be greatly appreciated. I mailed my application via express mail on the 1st day applications opened but I applied for the outside Texas grant this year (last 2 years as a Texas resident).
Again, best of luck to everyone. Hope someone hears good news this week.

I also applied for this grant…I live in tx but I haven’t received any notice yet! **fingers crossed and praying I get something in the mail soon! good luck to all of you, i know the stress of paying for school

I sent in my application at about 1 p.m. on the day the grant program opened and I really hope I receive some help. I have an EFC of 0 because I receive no financial support from anybody besides myself. This grant could help me not have to pull any money out of pocket for this year’s tuition (I am a freshman). I have worked in a restaurant for 3 years in high school to raise money for college and have about 12k and would hate to see it all drained on my first year in school.

I’m getting so anxious to hear back!!!

Sent mine in via regular mail the day it opened. Have an EFC of 0000. Haven’t received anything yet. The website says we should see something in the mail by August 1 if selected but hopefully it’ll be before then. If anyone gets anything though be sure to post and let others know!

I have an EFC of about 200 and I’m pretty sure I sent mine in the very first day.
I haven’t received anything in the mail but I’m hoping to get something! :)
