Charlottesville apartments

Yes. I completely agree with JimmyJam. It is kind of confusing for me to have to decide just now where I want to live next year. Most of the people I know are moving to lambeth but I do not like to location on lambeth. I was titling towards brown/irc, but then again there is a possibility that I may not get into either of these since both are application-based.

On the other hand I was considering off-grounds as an option as well because then I don't have to worry about putting my stuff in storage during summer and having to move somewhere during thanksgiving only because the dorms become completely empty. But the problems associated is that I am not too keen to buy all the funiture and more importantly move them into my apartment on my own and also I don't plan to buy a car. The furnished ones I see are wayyyy beyond my budget i.e 700-900/month per person. As for security, I have the same concerns and I WILL be walking back home at 2am in the morning (from clemons probably) so security is definitely an issue for me as well. None of the apartments I've seen so far actually have any kind of security (no swipe in/gates etc;)

It would be great one can clearly pointout what they see as the pros and cons of on and off-grounds housing.

@jimmyjam - please do post about how you like the corner

Is it realistic to think you might be able to sublet your apartment for the summer? In the JPA area in particular?

I'd like to wait until Parent's weekend when there will be dorm-open houses, before signing any lease.
Is there really any urgency to sign like next week, or do I have a little bit of time?
Some of my acquaintances are signing things they don't understand and without their parent's knowledge. Some kids are trying to back out of agreements, it's sort of a free-for-all. They feel this pressure and urgency to sign. I want to be sure that I know what I'm doing.
Tweety, I think that Cambden (corner apts.) has some sort of electronic swipe thing. If you go to BRAC.com you'll see their site. Good luck!

tweety - everyone who applies to the irc gets in. brown on the other hand is not that way, it's maybe 50% by the time we get through the waitlist (if you're willing to wait and bank on that - i know we got all the way through the waitlist this year and actually have some empty rooms - but not everyone is willing to wait - and once we exhaust the waitlist we stop trying, etc).

Haha, I thought that was just because you lost the waitlist when your site got hacked :p, lol.

I'm looking forward to being in Brown next year, do you know when you guys are going to put out the app for next year? It has to be sometime soon doesn't it? I have a lot of friends that want to apply.

Lots of people sublet apartments. You would probably want to get on that early, but not too early in case you might actually need it given summer plans. I would say I start seeing sublet flyers around early to mid April

Isnt the application form that is currently on Brown website for Fall 07? Interestingly though, its the same as the one for application in the fall 07.

yea. i updated the app personally a week ago. dunno what you're talking about there ehiunno.

hmmm? Can you post a link to it? I think I have the wrong site.

virginia.edu/browncollege

haha, yeah I have that. I saw the app on there but its the same as the first year app for this year, so I thought it was a little weird. my bad.

oh, yea, the app stays relatively the same between summer and fall readings, since we make up the new apps in the spring. a question or two may change based on the horribleness of the answers given, etc.
