This chart was just released by the U. of Delaware. It compares new in-state and out-of-state tuition list prices for Pitt, Penn State, U. Del and various other universities in the eastern US.

It also is worth noting that there are large variations between universities in total food and housing costs. Generally, universities in large cities have higher food and housing costs.

Interesting group of universities.

UDel announced a 5% increase in OOS tuition. They are soon going to price themselves out of the market for OOS students. However, it should be noted that the OOS tuition “price” for U Del is reduced by merit awards depending on the student’s GPA/SAT scores. It is also interesting to see the group of universities they choose to compare themselves with. Having investigated U Del for one of my daughters, I think Pitt and Penn State are head and shoulders above U Del academically.

I didn’t think Pitt or Penn State had announced tuition rates for 2012-2013 yet? Temple announced it would freeze tuition this year. PA state funding is holding steady so I’m hoping for little to no increase at Pitt this year.

Pitt’s OOS numbers for next year look current. We just received the notice in the mail.

I think Delaware has some top engineering programs because of DuPont money. That was what I could come up with on who it picked to compare. The list was a bit optimistic IMO.

That is very interesting that you received a notice of the new Pitt tuition. According to this article, the tuition will not be set for the 2012-2013 year until the board meets on July 13th.

On it’s other border, Rutgers’ OOS tuition is around 27K, with another 2700 in fees.

Pamom, what we really received was the financial aid letter, which in our case is her scholarship award for full tuition. The number in the letter was close to the number on Delaware’s chart. For us, it does not matter because whatever the tuition is, it is covered. Sorry if I was misleading.

lucky you, mdmom!

Thanks, pamom.

That’s not new information for Pitt. The asterisk next to Pitt’s name indicates they used 2011-2012 tuition & fee data. Pitt still hasn’t announced anything new, I believe.

lolz@chart

The chart doesn’t show me anything other than UDel is trying to make it seem more prestigious by grouping itself with superior schools.

In case anyone missed it, Pitt tuition will go up 3% this year, similar to Penn State.
