has anyone heard about the UGA charter scholarships? I know the rest are supposed to be awarded sometime in march.

kat101890 - I know my student found out in Jan they received charter- but they had applied early action.

Stats? If you don't mind. I'm OOS and I'd love to go to UGA, but the 33k COA is scaring me.

Does anyone know if UGA Charter Scholarships are still being mailed out?

Can OOS scholarship winners please post their stats, why they think they got the award, and amount of discount they received? Thanks.

bumpers…

uhh, really? Scholarships are done dude.

…I’m a junior.

stats for last year:
[University of Georgia awards 2008 Charter Scholarships](http://www.uga.edu/news/artman/publish/printer_080711_Charter.shtml)

"This years Charter Scholars had an average SAT score of 1394. Their average high school GPA exceeded 4.0. "

That is rather lower than I expected. With my 1420 (out of 1600) I should be a shoe-in OOS.

IntangibleGator: Less than a 30 point difference from the average SAT and you think you should be a shoo-in for an OOS waiver? You may receive one, but I would not bet on it, as that is only one item among many that are reviewed.

You clearly don’t understand the significance of an “average”. An average denotes many fall below the mean and many will fall above. With my 4.3 GPA, 8 AP’s, and 710 Writing section, I hope they review all facets of my application.

As such, I like my chances.

IntangibleGator: Actually, I understand averages very well, but just because you stated you were slightly above the average SAT would not mean anything alone. When you add in a strong GPA and curriculum, then yes, you are much stronger, but there are a number of applicants with stronger SAT scores that did not receive a charter schol. or waiver. In addition, all GA colleges are very limited (and I do mean very limited!)with OOS waivers, so your strong profile may still not merit an OOS waiver. It will depend upon the other OOS applicants as well. Good luck, though, and I would suggest you look at the Foundation Fellowship/Ramsey program!

I think it’s gotten more competitive since 2008 (as have admissions in general). I didn’t get a charter, and my SAT was 1490.

i def. would not say that intangiblegator is a shoe-in

So if I’m looking for OOS scholarships, Fellows(lol, not going to happen) and Charter are my only hope? I’m working to get my score to 1400, so I think I would have a decent, maybe 50/50 chance. But if someone didn’t get one with a 1490…yikes.

And then I hear something about the Regents scholarship…whats that? I’m assuming it is less than the charter, but still waives a good portion of OOS tuition.

Edit: Oh and I just looked at the Charter winners from last year and pretty much all of the OOS winners were from the South. I’m from the Midwest. In the past 10 years, like 2 kids have applied to UGA. I thought UGA did not care about whether you are in-state or OOS, but this most likely means they don’t care about geographic diversity either, right? That could help in my favor, right?

There’s a Regents Out-of-State tuition waiver, which is guaranteed with the Charter Scholarship but is possible to get by itself on its own. Since you are from a place that doesn’t send a lot of people to UGA, it’s possible you might be in the running for the One UGA scholarship which is intended to help “underrepresented groups” and I believe they consider people from non-typical states to be part of that.

Bump. Anyone receive a scholarship from UGA and wouldn’t mind sharing their stats?

Thanks

1470 SAT
8 APs

Charter Scholarship and Auto-admission for Honors so far as an EA applicant.

All right, thats pretty good, do you think you have a shot at FF/Ramsey?

lol I think I’m going to have about half as many APs as that, 4 and I’m studying my butt of for the SAT/ACT.

I got my results for my first ACT a couple of weeks ago, and I got a 29, which I’m content with. I feel like I can, with some practice and some retakes, get a 32. Hoping for a 32 or 1400+ SAT.

Thanks for posting your stats, I’m hoping to get some sort of tuition reducer, hopefully a waiver to get things down to IS rates.
