Anyone know the website that has the upperclass selling underclass class books? Or at least a place where I can get the books I'll need for class, for cheaper?

related question --

when should we buy the books? we haven't really registered for classes, but I've got a good idea what I'll be taking, and after some research found out what books I'll be using. Does it change from year to year, or would it be okay if I bought to books now? or does the first week not matter so much and I should just get the books after classes start? Thanks :)

For required classes like Lit Hum and CC, you can buy your books before class. They have boxed sets in the bookstore, and you can often find students selling those used.

For humanities classes, I recommend waiting until you go to the first day of class and get a syllabus, which will list the required texts and where you can buy them (more often than not they'll be at Labyrinth Books rather than the CU store; the professors like to support the more expensive local mom-and-pops...at Labyrinth though, you have the benefit of a very helpful, knowledgeable staff and books shelved by class). Sometimes you'll have to pick up a course packet from a local copy shop as well.

In the case of science textbooks, they generally don't change from year to year and can be bought new from the bookstore or used from other students. Nevertheless, you should check the bookstore registry (http://www.campusstores.com/columbia/index.asp) or look at a syllabus first, just to make sure.

Forgot to mention- two weeks before the term Labyrinth has its course book lists available to browse online as well. You can search by professor here:
