Can anybody recommend a decent website for cheap flights, within the US?

I need to get a flight from Logan Int'l to Hartford, Conn. and I'm getting $400+ dollar deals. My 7 hour flight from Dublin to Boston is cheaper!

It does not sell tickets but compares them from many web sites and then provides a link if you find a price you like. Also gives the option of alternate airports within a chosen distance. I think for internal flights it also gives an option for date flexibility. Make sure you check the length of travel and number of stops - for trips to England I have sometimes found a cheaper option but it will take 30 hours instead of the usual 10-11.

But if it is just 2 hours (per huskem's post) then drive or take a bus. Is there a train service?

Or can you get a connecting flight with your original flight - that would usually be cheaper than buying a separate flight.

A lot of times the cheapest and simplest alternative is to just go with Southwest Airlines if the service is available to the destination you're interested in. On the other hand, as several others above have said, to me it just makes no sense to fly to Hartford from Boston. A two hour drive by bus or car is just about the right number. Compare that with the plane- waiting for the time to board, and then after the flight you don't land in Hartford, you land in Windsor Locks, which is about 15 miles outside of Hartford, and so you'll need ground transportation at that point anyway.

Thanks for the advice re:trains/buses, etc! It seemed like a long journey is it cost that much! I look into the other modes of transport and thanks again for your help!

You can't actually buy tickets through Kayak. It is just a search engine It looks at every web site out there including the Airlines own websites which are frequently the cheapest. Then you follow a link to the website. Some of the fates will be refundable. Others not. Just make sure you read the details.

futurenyustudent brings up another interesting point- I'll bet there are few (if any) direct flights from Boston to Hartford! Therefore, in addition to all the delays and extra time before and after the flight, flying may actually take you more time EN ROUTE than bus or train! To minimize your hassle, just take a cab from Logan to the bus or train, whichever you pick: you'll still be hundreds of dollars ahead vs. flying.
