Cheap hotels near the campus?

My parents are thinking about sleeping in state college to rest before the long drive back...Does anyone know a cheap (or cheapest) hotel in that area?
Thank you.

Ramada Inn - not especially cheap (95 per night) but good.
Also, Motel 6 and Sleep Inn but I'm not crazy about those places - never stayed in the State College versions but have been less than thrilled with them in other towns.

We always stay at the Comfort Inn about 1/2 mile from NIttany Inn for about $90-100/night. Very large rooms and excellent staff. If you go to Phillipsburg, there are a few really cheap hotels... I haven't been in them, but have driven by them several times.

Also, I don't know their route but there are lots of hotels on I-99 close to Altoona.

I've stayed at Days Inn Hotel on Pugh Street for my FTCAP. I believe it costs $70-75/night.

Thanks for the input everyone. Not the cheapest places considering state college is in the middle of nowhere, but now I have an idea about the price range--it doesn't matter if the room is nice as long as there is a bed and TV : )

frasi - prices for rooms in state college vary significantly based on the time of year. They won't be too cheap during move in periods. Even worse, prices during football weekends are outrageous - $300 per night at a place like Hampton Inn - with a 2 night min. It's all about demand...
Going further out can help. Go to a good search engine and look for places within 25 miles - prices go way down.
Good luck.

We've had very good experiences with the Penn Stater conference center. And call the 800 number and ask for the deal that includes the breakfast buffet as part of the deal.

I'm not sure if they adjust their prices up and down during these busy times, but if they are within a few bucks of cheaper competiors, it's a ncie place to stay (i.e. you get what you pay for. )

Check out Roadway Inn. :)
