Cheap student travel?

does anyone have any suggestions for cheap/relatively cheap international travel??...I'm considering going to Europe or some other country this summer or going to somewhere like New York since I'll be 18...any help would be greatly appreciated...

Do you mean a program or just airfare? What experience are you looking for?

And also what is your definition of cheap? Like how much would you be willing to pay?

I'm willing to pay for up to like $1,000-$2,000

my parents can pay for the rest (if I can't get it for that cheap or cheaper)...and I'm just talking about airfare, hotel, and maybe a tour...

I think you first need to decide exactly what you want to do. Europe's a big place and its very easy to spend a lot of money (trust me). I think your best bet is to look for some kind of student program that is organized and with a set fee.

one of my friends stayed in youth hostels this summer. they can be slightly sketchy, but if you find a good one it's a good way to save money and meet other people. they also have them all over europe.

if you want to stay cheap, stay away from England--the pound is ridiculous these days.

EF Tours!

They're cheap, and half the tour is free time for you to explore.

I suggest Prague if you're looking for a place. I've never been, but I'm dying to. People say there's always something to do, and it's ridiculously affordable. A couple years ago, a friend of mine went. He stayed at a little place and had breakfast there--and it only cost him about 14 bucks.

I love England (my favorite place in the world), but the pound is crazy. All the numbers are the same, like 5.50 for a burger meal in the US, and 5.50 for a burger meal in the UK. Only, the currency is different. The pound is twice the dollar, so it's practically 11 US dollars for a burger meal in the UK.

I would second the Prague suggestion, its a great city. Also Budapest is wonderful as well. I'm quite biased towards Germany, but it is a cool country, lots of stuff to do. Austria and Switzerland are also wonderful.

Hostels are okay if you find the right ones, personally I avoid them, I've stayed in a couple during school trips though. They are generally cheap though. As for travel you can buy rail passes that are good throughout most of W. Europe. Those are also pretty cheap.

I third the hostels, they are cheap and you can research the different hostels in the areas you want to go to find the good ones.
