Hey everyone. I was planning on going to France for the summer, but I was the only person who signed up so it got canceled. It was going to be my Christmas/bday/graduation gift, so I need another plan. I am a junior FYI, so I would be an upcoming senior in the summer of 2011. I would really want a similar program to the one I was going to do: France Joint-Enrollment Program

It was a joint enrollment program for three weeks and I got six college credit hours for it. It costs around 3,495.00 and I would like a program which is similar in cost and structure. The program is not a scam, it has been going strong since the 1980's and it's sponsored by North Georgia College and State. I would also have gone to school each day except on the weekends and I was going to live with a host family. With this economy, they could not find anyone to sign up.

For my family, the program is not cheap. It would have been a stretch. I know compared to other programs in Europe, this program is a hidden gem. However, I need a program which is around the same price rage. I know it is late in the game, but I desperately want to go to Europe this summer. I would prefer to do another joint enrollment program abroad, but I'm very open. It doesn't have to be in France or be a French immersion program. Most of the scholarship programs deadlines are overdue, so if you know any please let me know. It just needs to be affordable.

Italy is a country I have always wanted to go to. I'm also open to programs in Australia, or even Canada.

I would be willing to go to a program in the states, but I really want to go abroad. I am interested in print journalism.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been researching hard, but I can't find anything. I posted the thread in the parents forum because I thought I may get more responses than in the study abroad forum.

Your best bet for (relatively) cheap programs are going to be Spanish immersion programs in Latin America. Many of them are set up very much like the one you were planning to attend in France, though I’m not sure they carry college credit. There are a few recent threads on them in the summer programs forum.

early_college, send an e-mail to Humanities Spring to confirm plans for 2011 – it is a small program so Jenny may not yet have had time to update her web site.

Universite Sainte-Anne, a French-language university in Nova Scotia, runs a 5-week French immersion program for $3000 plus airfare. I think you get 6 college credits. Several people went from my high school (they come to recruit every year) and returned multiple times, so it has a good reputation.

Also, it does not have to be a language immersion camp. I prefer it not to be one. When I read that you can only speak French, it was an immediate no! The program I was going to do was a perfect fit though. I would also like the cost to include airfare.
