I am currently an out-of-state sophomore at the University of New Hampshire. I am looking to transfer for the spring 2012 semester because I feel as though this is not the university for me. I am extremely interested in the arts and just culture in general so I am looking for an urban university. I am interested in majoring in english, philosophy, or film. I do not care for a campus. My current gpa is a 3.62, last semester I got a 3.84, so I am looking for a "good" university to attend. I really cannot go over $40,000 a year. Thank you.

New York is. I was kind of hoping to see other things than New York, I’m not sure if I’m being too picky or not. UNH is an hour away from Boston (closer than some of the SUNYs are to NYC) and I never find myself there. I am looking for a school that could give me the best urban experience, or close to it for the price. I have considered UMaryland but it is close to and not in an urban environment. I will most likely end up applying there though, thank you.

If “good” means better than UNH, there are still a lot of urban(ish) schools out there. And, even privates, after financial aid, will be under $40,000.

So,

Public:
UCLA
UCSD
University of Texas - Austin
University of Pittsburgh
University of Minnesota

The UC’s aren’t really urban though.

Private:
There are some of the ivies and MIT and such. Don’t know if they interest you all that much (i.e. Columbia, Penn, Chicago)
Georgetown
Carnegie Mellon
NYU
George Washington
Syracuse
Boston University
Fordham
Northeastern
American
Drexel

Wisconsin COA is over $39K/year, but under $40K.
Temple COA is about the same, about $39K/year. Philadelphia is more of a “city” than Madison, more “urban.”

Minnesota would be about $29K/year. More reasonably priced. The Minneapolis/St. Paul area is nice.

@mom2collegekids, I know people who transferred and they all talk about how big their packages were (and these kids do not need that much FA). It isn’t a universal code, but I was just stating that it is possible.
