Cheaper to commute ... but is it better to live on campus??

I am going to attend college in my near future and I can't decide on where to live. My parents are encouraging me to commute back and forth, because it would be a lot cheaper - - but I've heard it's a hassle. I'm confused on what to do. Is it worth it to spend the extra money and live at school? Or should I listen to my parents and live at home? Please help. Thanks.

ABSOLUTELY live on campus -- at least for your Freshman year! You will miss half of the learning experience and 80% of the fun if you don't! REALLY! Freshman year in a dorm is a once in a life experience and if you miss it, you'll never get another chance. You can always move back home after your first year. Honestly -- don't miss it (from a mom!)

If your school is a commuter school in general and most students don't live on campus, then it might not hurt you too much to commute. Otherwise, I'd recommend living there unless it will put a SERIOUS financial strain on you and your family. I hear lots of people say they wish they went away, but hardly anyone regrets living on campus.
