Okay so i got my acceptence letter and i was really happy. Everything seemed to be going my way until it came to scheduling my visit to VT. The problem is I live in the New York Metropolitan area specifically Long Island and to drive there takes 11 hours which I honestly don't think I can do during Spring Break a plane ride to the three closest airports (Roanoke, Lewisburg,(WV) &Bluefield(WV)) cost at least $550. Also if its going to be difficult to get home if I go there my parents may not let me go and make me stay closer to home (they've been pushing for Syracuse) So my question is what is the cheapest & fastest way to get to Virginia Tech.

Phreshness, don't know when you are wanting to go, but , check Northwest and Delta's sites separately. I just plugged in LaGuardia to Roanoke and got a couple of cheaper fares (under $300 RT) than you found for the dates of April 15-17. Here are the links:

Of course you will need a rental car to go the 35 min. from Roanoke to Blacksburg. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much I'll look into that

I have the same challenge (and for the same weekend) but from LAX....the cheapest flights seem to be more than $500. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If your flying into Roanoke there is a bus service that will take you to VT. Bus Route Map | Smart Way Bus Coming out of Northern Va, renting a car is the only real option besides Greyhound Bus.

Lane Stadium at VT is considered one of the hardest places to play in College Football because its so hard for opponents fans to get there.

Is there a train that goes from northern Virginia/DC metropolitan area to VT?

The closest you can get to VT by train is Lynchburg (about 2 hours away). There probably is a connecting shuttle service to Roanoke, but you would have to change again to get the bus to Blacksburg.

There is a shuttle bus from VT to DC but it leaves VT on Friday and returns Sunday.
