So is any one up to date on the routes and costs now? I’d like to get a detailed explanation of the route if possible, I don’t want to attempt it and end up missing something.

honestly i think amtrak’s your best bet because it takes you straight. while 30 dollars (i believe) is not an ideal price to get home…you really don’t have that much of a choice because you ARE kind of traveling a great distance. It’s like airplane rides…there isn’t a way to get a super cheap ticket to fly over to asia or something. People I knew last year usually found people from their own city and carpooled at times and switched off and they would take amtrak for random weekends. People go home usually on breaks, so you can find someone who live in SJ or even close to SJ. If you really want a cheap option you can try and take the shuttle to UCB and then bart to Fremont and then find another shuttle to take you to SJ. Or have someone pick you up at the Fremont bart. Amtrak saves you trouble nonetheless, so you have to weigh your options.

I agree - Amtrak is the best way to go unless you can share gas with someone
who has a car. Between gas and the $5 toll, one person driving is almost the
same as Amtrak. Put up notices or just make sure everyone you know is
aware that you are looking for a carpool. Someone is bound to know somebody!

I don’t have any info on the shuttle you are referring to.

Unless you’re riding with a friend back and forth, I agree that Amtrak is the most reliable to go.

If you’re planning to go fairly often (like a couple times a year), consider getting a student advantage card. You pay like $20 for a year’s membership, but you get a discount every ride, as long as you buy it 3 days ahead of time. I think you get 15% off?

I live near Fremont, and one way, I save $4 bucks with the student advantage card, and $8 on roundtrip (obviously, X2).
