cheapest way to buy Chem 1A materials?

Required Material(s) :

I-Clicker Classroom Response System

CHEMISTRY PKG (PERSONALIZED OWL&GUIDE)

TI-30X IIS Calculator

Stud Lab Notebook

Which of these can be purchased at amazon or half.com and what's in a chemistry package?
And do we need to buy a new Stud Lab Notebook? I could find some cheap ones at amazon, but they were used.
And if I have a non-graphing calculator, can I not buy TI-30X calc?

Also, for Chem 1A, section 3, how come Chemistry textbook is recommended, not required?

Bid a used iclicker from ebay for less than $15. Just re-register it to your name and student ID on the iclicker site and it will work. Whatever you do, don't buy that damn piece of plastic from Cal Student Store. They sell it for $35 and they'd buy back from you for like $11. Total Ripoff.

If you have a scientific calculator, there's no need to get a TI-30X. Just show to your GSI or whoever that your calculator can't do any crazy **** if the instructor is anal about SPECIFICALLY getting the TI30X. (Guess they sign some contract with Texas Instrument, no?)

can someone give me answers to other questions?

the chemistry textbook and OWL should be included in CHEMISTRY PKG (PERSONALIZED OWL&GUIDE)

chem professors get the student store subsidized prices for the student store.

E.g. for chem 3a/b, it is cheaper to buy the chem stuff in the package then to get them separately

can i just use my graphing calculator instead? i have a scientific one, but i prefer to use my graphing calculator. also, what types of graphing calculators are permitted?

some gsi's will let you use graphing calculators on tests after they had inspected them (for notes,etc.).

I wouldnt take my chances as some gsi's aren't as nice.

Graphing calculators are not allowed for chem 1a exams. Their use is allowed in lab

No calculators are allowed for chem 3a exams. Any calculator is allowed for use in 3al lab

Actually, Frechet allowed us to use graphing calculators on the exam.

But scientific only for chem1a

^weird, Pedersen has no calculators for his tests whatsoever.

"Actually, Frechet allowed us to use graphing calculators on the exam."

I can't imagine the advantage of having a graphing calculator on his exams.

Frechet just trusts his students not to input notes/cheats into the calculator. I prefer graphing to scientific calculators because I can see what I input into the calculator in case I make an error or something.
