cheaters cheaters pumpkin eaters

Catchy title, huh?
How common is cheating at your school? I recently realized that cheating is a lot more prevalent at my school than I would like to admit. It seems that when we grade papers in class, I see some kid hurriedly changing his answers to copy someone else, or someone looking at my paper (but I cover it up and give them a withering stare).

One of my "friends" is one of those "I don't care about grades" people, but she manages to scrape all As come report card time. i know last year she told a bold-faced lie to a teacher about cheating on a test, and I feel like a cheater for not telling the truth about her.

I know no one wants to admit it, but cheating is something that happens at nearly every school, and I want to know how commonplace it really is.

.-_-.

cheating is everywhere! i was so surprised to find out that some of our top ten students have gotten to where they are by stealing tests and looking at other people's papers. it's really disappointing especially for those of us that actually do our own work. :(

I say that out of the top 100 in my senior class, 60 cheat on a regular basis.

I hate cheaters. Even though it's not necessarily cheating, I hate those people who approach you and ask you if you "did" or "have" certain homework, in hopes that you will say yes and then ultimately be forced into giving it to them. It just ****es me off so much. Why should some people have to work hard on it and then others just get to copy? I've said yes, that I did the homework, far too many times and ended up just having to let them copy it, even as stupid as it sounds, for fear of made fun of. So now everytime I lie and say I didn't do it or act totally surprised and say, "Oh crap! We had to do that?" It works every time.

how depressing.

I really hoped that when I posted this I would be making a horrible over-generalization, but I guess not. So many people ask me if I did my homework, then ask if they can see it. I say no, but then they walk away thinking I'm the snobby smart kid, which I'm not (the snobby part ;) ). I'm happy to help out, but copying is out of the question.

.-_-.

The worst part is, at my school most of the teachers simply look the other way. It would be easy to bust most of the people cheating, but no one wants to deal with the hassle.

cheating...not cool.

Everyone does it..I think.

I think everyone's cheated at least once. Even if you haven't consciously looked at someone else's paper during an exam...have you ever taken more time than you were told to take on a take-home assignment? Have you ever consulted a book the second before the exam is placed on your desk, so you can quickly scribble the info onto the paper from your short-term memory? Have you ever deliberately sat at the far side of the room so the teacher takes longer to get to you to give you your exam (so you can keep cramming) or collect it (so you can keep working)? Have you ever stayed home "sick" from school to study when other people went to school and took the test? Dunno...there are many subtle ways to gain advantages on tests and we've all used them.

I've done it my fair share of times. It's a natural thing. I dont cheat on essays or anything like that, but I pretty much cheated the whole year in physics. My teacher simply was oblivious to anything we did. As long as it doesnt affect others and you know the consequences, it isnt a big deal.

Yeah, I don't mind as long as people have no airs about them. If you're not cheating off of others' work, and you're not doing any harm except inflating your own grade, then I couldn't care less. It's only going to hurt the cheater in the long run. If you don't act like you're some perfect, studyholic, high achieving goody 2-shoes, then go ahead and do what you like.

It's funny as hell because all the cheaters in my grade have nice GPAs but horrible SAT scores. You see like 3.9UWs getting 1600 on their SAT, good to know there's some kind of a check against them.

On the other hand, they mess with my rank. bastards..

If I find out someone has cheated, my estimation of that person sinks a good deal. I've never done it myself--I've never had to, or felt outside pressure to achieve more than I was capable of--or knowingly aided or abetted it. Yes, I have played sick, but not so I could gain an advantage; rather, because I simply couldn't face it all that day. School stressed me out a lot in my younger years. :o shrugs :p

I'm offended since I work hard for my GPA, and with the exception of Sparknotes, I don't really cheat, got 3.7 overall, 4.0 last semester, and only 1750 on PSAT:P

At my school, cheating is not so rampant, but it's still there. I'd say about 30 out of every 100 students cheat regularly, although I am aware that that is still a large number...considering I go to a school of 1600 kids.

it all depends on what kind of cheating.
in a school where busywork accounts for perhaps 75% of all work (im sure its similar at many other schools), it makes sense to assign people to do different parts of teh assignment, then meet and copy them.
if a teacher didn't spend time developing an assignment, i should not have to spend the time to complete it.

on the other hand, cheating during tests and the like is unacceptable.

Oh, the irony.

Of course cheating is common, and not only in school either. The amount of cheating will vary from school to school. Kind of a dumb question if you ask me.

and with the exception of Sparknotes, I don't really cheat

Sparknotes is "cheating," my friend. =p

Sparknotes is not cheating. It's called "using the resources available to you". Unless your teacher explicitly tells you not to read Sparknotes, you're not doing anything illegal.
