What world are you guys living in? Cheating happens all the time. Every second of every day... Who has not cheated in their lifetime whether in the smallest or greatest respect?

the ivy league bit ch.

soooo not true, i would say ivy leaguers are the greatest cheaters of high school who coudn't accept a B so they did what ever they needed to get the A, icluding CHEATING!

wow, not to generalize or anything, dpiderit. I think that's really unfair, and untrue. Obviously there are a few people like that (a very few), but the entire Ivy League? Remember, Ivy League schools look at personality in addition to grades/scores, and they really try to accept people who have integrity and aren't cut throat.

dpiderit, get over your jealousy and grow up.

a lot of ivy leaguers worked there tails off and were moral people...some werent...moving on, it all depends on how you define cheating...copying notes? nope, not in college or HS. most students today will copy that sort of HW, but no way do i think my classmates would plaigairize...in fact were so scared of getting kicked out that we cite even minor sources...

Ok just so y'all know i've met this people with straight A's and find out they are the greatest cheaters even though they are the pressident of the class. I've met these people so i'm not talking like crazy here, of course not all of the ivy leaguers are cheaters but def. some of them are(at least in hs, i can't say anything about college) and that of course, that ticks me and anyone off becuase they don't deserve it. So BERN, i think i don't need to grow up as much as you need to open your eyes!!;)

I'm sorry that you've had to deal with people like that. They certainly do exist. I just don't think they're swarming the Ivy League--it's pretty damn near impossible to cheat on SATs and APs, and you usually need to do well on both to get in. I know there are incidences of cheating at Ivy League schools (I go to one, and I heard there was some kind of cheating scandal in the comp sci department a few years back). But generally, at least in my experience, it's pretty rare. I know none of my friends cheat now or cheated to get where they are, and I certainly didn't.

I totally agree with dpiderit...at my school, a "top" public magnet school, the people who have the highest grades generally are the ones that have cheated, or cheated the most. Like 50% of our population are Asian (all Asians at my school are smart), and the overall atmosphere of my school is CUT THROAT. Parents are disappointed with a 95 for goodness sake! The point is, that with all this pressure over every little point, the smartest kids feel as if it is worth it to cheat. They'd do anything for that extra point or that A. Bern, dpiderit doesn't need to grow up. If anyone would need to grow up it is you (bern). First off, aren't we all jealous of the Ivies? Yes...truthfully. Secondly, cheating is reality, definitely in the Ivies. Enough said, and didn't want to sound mean.

glucose101, that school sounds like monta vista in northern california haha jk.

i go to UCLA, they start us off at orientation with this funny/cool video about cheating. well, the lessons learned were pretty serious, they got their point across. zero tolerance if caught cheating. they even had a part in the video where the cheater got kicked out of ucla, tried to apply to usc, and couldnt even get in! LOL

to help prevent plagiarism, my profesors either make us do some tutorial on citations and then make us turn our papers to turnitin.com. also, professors have very unique ways of trying to prevent cheating (pre-written material) on exam books (which u bring to the exam yourself), like crossing off the first page or turning it upside down, then writing your answers, or writing your essay starting from the last page backward, etc.

lol. i know of many cheaters in college!! Lots of people cheat on their papers. Usually they pay someone else to write it. I know of many many many people who've done this at my college! Frats used keeps old copies of all the papers until the schools started scanning the papers into a database...I know of many people who have cheated on tests and finals too. Just because you dont see it or it is not reported does not mean it doesnt happen. it probably happens the same amount as in high school. Maybe the cheaters in college have just had time to refine their techniques so they dont get caught. maybe high school eliminated all the bad cheaters.
Yes, yes some schools like ucla do have "unique" ways of trying to stop cheating like making you cross out some random page in the blue book, but how does that REALLY stop someone from cheating? if that fools anyone then they are stupid. Teachers really dont try to catch cheaters, they do take stupid precautions that arent gonna stop anything just to make themselves look like they are doing something.
Also most cheaters dont get caught and probably dont go around school blabbing to everyone about it. So no wonder people dont think a lot of people cheat in college. I can tell you its more than 10%!!!!!!!!!! I witnessed a lot more than that during my first quarter.

See, the people who have witness it know what i'm talking about... as xfro_girl said:
"Just because you dont see it or it is not reported does not mean it doesnt happen."

I never said it didn't happen. I just said it wasn't common, and that most people at top schools do work to get where they are without resorting to cheating.
