cheating on homework

I was caught copying on a hw assignment. But I only copied one question and it was impossible for me to copy the entire hw because it was 15 questions long and contained many diagrams and I had 5 minutes before class started. But because of the Stuyvesant cheating scandal, instead of receiving a warning since it was my first time, it went on my "dean's files". HOW WILL THIS EFFECT MY CHANCES WITH COLLEGES?

Also I dont know if this would matter but I am getting an 93 in the class and I generally get around 90s or high 80s.

Would it help if i get a recommendation letter from the teacher?

Also I am a junior in high school

i hope you are not serious. what do you think your teacher would say in the letter? I would not in a million years ask a teacher who caught me cheating to write such a letter.

It would be nearly impossible and even disingenuous for the teacher not to mention the cheating in a letter of rec.

Choose another teacher who doesnt know about the cheating incident.

but what would happen with my college chances exactly. how bad is this

It all really depends on what the school chooses to do.
