my friend is applying to MIT next year . he is quiet smart (ranked 1/18 very small classes/very unique school system)and got a 1380/1600 on the sat . hes an international student. but our school is xxxx.
they are ranking him 1/90 and the school is changing his grades dramatically.his mom is heavely involved in the school's commitee.and above that the english teachers write his essays. and he pays teachers to write good recommendations.his mom created a club that is successful(helping the poor in our country) he is the president of this association but does absolutely nothing while me , a regular member work my xxx off!! and his mom changes his community hours drasticaly. and i can go on and on and on... this really annoys me like hell. the whole school is only.focusing on 1 student and dont care about the others.this happens each year with a particular student that gets accepted to almost all the ivy's. should i contact MIT?

I’d say yes. Nobody deserves an unfair advantage.

I doubt the MIT admissions committee will consider allegations of cheating from people. Complaining to local authorities may be more effective. It’s hardly a secret that there is rampant cheating internationally either and my impression is that MIT considers this in admissions (I suspect this accounts for why the vast majority of international students from China at MIT at the undergraduate level have studied in the US during high school or come from well regarded high schools or are transfer students from elite Chinese colleges) .

This case is especially egregious. If you feel strong enough detail the EC cheating in a well written letter. Offer to disclose more facts on request. BTW EC cheating/puffery is everywhere including the U.S. so I agree that Admcom will likely not care. Then again if the letter is well written with detailed facts it could raise an eyebrow or two.

I agree with sosomenza in my opinoin they wouldnt consider your request. Why they should believe to you? Maybe you lie?

Anyway try to contact them and explain everything… Might be they will consider…

i will contact them next month i ve got nothing to loose

I doubt the entire school is helping that kid because of money…
Maybe he is quite talented…
You can call the school but I seriously doubt they will believe your accusations
Also I am not saying that I doubt you or anything but you should have strong basis for your accusation. If you don’t have full prof and you call MIT… you might get yourself in to a really nasty trouble that might affect your chance of admission.

i live in a corrupt country in the middle east. if a cop sees you using drugs you can pay him 50$ and he ll leave. i live in a country like that. money can buy you anything including grades. yes this kid is SMART but not a mit standart student

I think it is none of your business. It is very hard for anyone to get into MIT. He’ll need to do a lot more than cheat on some EC’s to get accepted.

You should feel sorry for him, how sad to think the only way he can get in is if his mom intervene’s for him…he will have to live with that his whole life.

He probably won’t get in. There was an international applicant to MIT this year who basically faked his way through life. He had even given TEDtalks in India based on a totally unwarranted (edit: didn’t mean to swear, oops) reputation that he engineered through lots and lots and lots of cheating (short version: he marketed himself as an internet/app design mogul/entrepreneur with like 8 bogus companies, created like 200,000 fake twitters to follow him, stole websites & claimed them as his original designs, made phone “apps” using a WSYWIG app maker & called himself a developer…it went REALLY far), and he got rejected.

By the way you should have strong/material evidence to accuse him.

international96@ Don’t bother. If you don’t apply to MIT, why do you bother. It is not guaranteed that the said cheater will be selected. If selected, let the cheater be handled by MIT. You apply in other good Universities. MIT is not the only University in U.S.A., where everybody has to attend.

Since some of the International students tend to narrate fictitious ecs and community service activities and it is not possible for MIT to judge those and hence MIT resorted to Olympiad Medal holders in case of International students.

But smart International students also beaten that criteria by in-genuine planning and meticulous execution.
