Cheating

I got caught cheating on a test. Teacher said its going onto my record. How much does this effect my chances of getting to a college, such as Depaul, UIC, NIU.... 2.8 GPA 25 ACT Extra info

It probably effects it a lot but those colleges, Depaul, in general are probably not to picky

A lot. When colleges are notified of cheating, they question the integrity of all of your academic work, not just the single assignment or class in isolation - they’ll assume that your transcript is the aggregate product of academic dishonesty.

I am not familiar with those colleges - but if they were target schools for a 2.8/25 - then they’re going to be a lot harder to get into now with the cheating offense.

Go to your guidance counselor and see what options are available to you - whether it be disciplinary forgiveness or, to a more substantial extreme, enrolling in community college for a year or two in order to transfer.

Instead of a community college, apply wherever you want to go with all the necessary safeties. If you have exhausted all the desirables, then yes, go to where they will accept you.

I honestly do not think this will effect you very much at all. Most of us here on CC will tell you that we don’t cheat, and its true (very few of us would ever jeopardize a test…), how is about putting that effort up front before the test next time.

Good luck in future endeavors OP.
