Ok, so the update on our ID's is only good for 90 days but how are we supposed to check out our "CASH: Check Aid Status Here" without the update? I suppose, more to the point is there anything there that needs to be addressed immediately or can it wait a few more days?

I called the financial office about this very thing and she told me that we will still be able to view all of our financial information. I told her I wasn’t planning to go to UT until orientation in June to update the EID, and she said that was fine.

Because we are OOS, I mailed the UT EID upgrade form (notarized) for my son today. It was our only option since we are in Ohio, but you may want to check to see if the mail-in option is available to in-state students. I don’t remember seeing any language indicating it was only for OOS, but you should check.

The system won’t LET us check our financial aid status without upgrading the UT EID. I guess I’ll take DS to our local bank tomorrow to notarize the form. It says it’s good for only 90 days without his showing up in person, so I hope that’s not a problem.

^ I also have this concern, but surely it cannot be a new issue. They don’t have tons of kids coming from OOS or International, but there are 500 or so students total who likely will not be able to stroll into the ID Center sometime in the next three months to satisfy them. It seems rather short-sighted of them to require it to view information you receive in March but also require you to appear on campus by early June.

MaineLonghorn: Just a suggestion, but my son’s high school guidance office has a notary who was happy to notarize the form for him. Saved the frustration of trying to schedule a trip to the bank with a busy senior.

She said there is a way to view it without upgrading once they actually process all the applications because not everyone can make it down there in the 90 days after they mail in the upgrade. Many people aren’t planning to go until orientation in June and July. She said they will tell you online and by snail mail mid March/ early April how much aid you can receive.

We are planning orientation on June 15th, so we are going to upgrade on or about March 15th, that way my daughter can transition to a new upgrade when we visit.

But is there anything that needs immediate attention on the financial page before you upgrade on the 15th?

I just don’t like delaying anything since they emailed my dorm contract two days before the cancellation date. I want to make sure I’m on top, or ahead, of things.

“We have received your FAFSA application for the school year including Summer 2010, Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. Our office will begin processing applications in mid March.”

I doubt that there is anything that needs immediate attention if you have already submitted FAFSA.
