So I've been narrowing down my list, but worried that it might be a bit reach-heavy...I don't know if I really like my safeties, or if my safeties are safeties.

White female

Stats, 2300 SAT, 94.5 UW gpa, no rank, 7 AP's

EC's
Athletic-captain tennis, did track for 2 years, black belt karate

Research-2 internships at prestigious univiersites, published research in natl. peer reviewed journal

Languages-Japanese, japanese club, speaking competitions, spanish, hebrew tutor

My list in order of preference:

Barnard(maybe,probably, ED?)
UPenn
Georgetown
Brown
Cornell Human Ecolgy
Tufts
Northwetern

You look good, but if Barnard is your first choice, why not take a look at some of the other urban LACs? Vassar, Macalester (a match/safety), and (more suburban) Swarthmore and Pomona (reachy)?

I’d be hesitant to declare any of those last four schools as true safeties, especially UNC-CH and BC. UMD-CP would be the closest to a safety, but I’ve seen some strange decisions for in-staters so I can believe it’s even more strange for out-of-state applicants.

Thanks! I really don’t like LAC’s that much-Barnard is only on the list because its in NYC. Plus it has the opportunities of the larger Columbia University.

I thought BC and UNC were matches-my school is a major feeder to BC, 100% admit rate with over 2100 SAT.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call Tufts a reach by any means. I would say BC is in the bag as well. You are absolutely in at UMCP, unless they honestly just decide that you’re too good and don’t want to risk lowering their yield that much more, if they even practice that.

The most recent USNWR has Tufts with the same acceptance rate as Northwestern and U of Chicago. Tufts is a reach. This year they accepted less kids than Upenn (less kids applies to Tufts, so the acceptance rate is higher). It’s competitive, and they focus on the essays a lot. Especially given the SAT ranges (Which are on par with ivies) and that the average student is in the top 5% of their class.

@mom2: I mean, I like them enough. This sounds stupid, but I always imagined that wherever I go to school, people would say, “wow, thats an amazing school”. I come from a family where both parents have multiple ivy league degrees, and those schools are good, but not as pretigious.

Things I like, though are: friendly student body, good athletics, good academic, good social life, near/in a city.

@buzzers: I’m a legacy at tufts, so I know how difficult it is. People always underestimate Tufts, but its very selective school.

I guess I’m slightly too conservative with my advice and estimations; my apologies…if you believe they are true lock-ins, then your list is okay.

I would add Michigan to your list of matches. It has a very friendly student body, great athletics and academics, good social environment and is located in the heart of one of the coolest college towns.
