So it probably isn't rediculous, but what do you guys think?

Chem 210
Chem 211
English 125
Math 115
Psych 121

Chem 210
Chem 211
English 125

Psych 121

stupid if you're a freshman. take 3 classes your 1st semester to adjust. I don't care how smart you are. Two of my friends, one with a 36-the other with a 34, told me the biggest mistake they made was taking 4 classes 1st semester fresh year, and not giving themselves time to adjust.

Stupid if you're on a premed cirriculum? The chem placement exam put me into Chem 210/211 and I need to get my math/english out of the way.

Watch out for Orgo. I was reallly good at chemistry when I came in, but Orgo was a different animal. Some people are just naturally good at it, but some people like myself just flat out suck at it. Overall, that seems like a fairly average schedule, although I don't know about Psych 121.

Psych 121 is a freshman seminar

oh, focus alot of time on orgo and you should be fine.

sophomore standing?

I think that in general, having 13 to 16 credits first semester is fine.

I think only taking 3 classes is risky...4 classes is probably fine, as long as at least 2 of them are easier classes.

5 classes like that, though? That could get a little crazy...but if you focus and work hard, get help when needed, I think you could manage to get through it. My only question is, why bother? Why are you taking 2 chem classes anyways? 1 isn't enough?

The two chem classes are orgo and orgo lab, so it's not really two classes. Plus freshmen seminars don't really require work, AFAIK. As long as you don't completely neglect your other classes because of orgo, you'll be fine.

it isn't all that ridiculous. i've already got sophomore standing and i'm still taking 4 classes math 215 (cal 3), eng 125, polsci 140, and asianlan 104 1st semester. i was gonna do econ instead of polsci 140 too but my advisor advised againt it. i no a lot of ppl doing orgo 1st semester freshman year and they're not all pre-med or pre-pharm. but i'm pre-biz so maybe i am crazy.

I bet I have you beat

Engineering 100
Math 156
Physics 140/141
Philosophy 232

I'm gonna try it for the first couple weeks, and if it seems like its really too much, I'll just drop the philosophy, leaving me with an almost certainly manageable 13 credits.

My freshman year schedule:

geosci 107*
math 295
polsci 306
polsci 317
polsci 391
eng 483*
slavic 490*

*mini-courses

you placed out of Chem?

i have:
Engineering 101
Math 156
Chem 130
Chem 125/126

can someone please tell me why we have to take 8 hours of Chemistry a week? its ridiculous especially if youre not going into a field that doesnt need it like mechanical engineering.

because you have a lab. the labs are usually 3-4 hours but you'll have little to no homework.

gingerbreadboie, at least you'll be done with chemistry for the rest of undergrad after those classes.

Careful about taking Chem 210/211. If you have not taken Chem 130/125/126 or if you have not gotten credit for it throught AP Chemistry, then you shouldn't be taking orgo. The placement test means nothing. Check your graduation requirements. Just bc you placed into of Chem 210 doesnt mean you dont have to still take Chem 130. I had a friend who took orgo freshman year because he placed into it. Turns out, he needs to take 130 bc its part of his graduation requirements.

you might struggle with your schedule a lot if you can't spell ridiculous correctly.

wow I haven't been on here in a while. That schedule is not that bad. You will be fine. The biggest problem with orgo is that people fear it before they take it. Orgo I, II, and Biochem were by far my favorite classes at Michigan. Just make sure you GO TO LECTURE and DO THE COURSEPACK. I never ever opened the digusting green book. If you listen to the Professor and take good notes, it won't be a problem. Also, the SLC study groups are good for re-enforcing the material.

SLC = Sweetland Learning Center?

i know ill be done with Chem after this semester.. but being in engineering, they let us skip writing and foreign language. why cant they see we wont be using chem in our careers and let us skip that too..

o well.. im happy with my decision to take basic Chem instead of Orgo. my peer adviser said i would want to stay away from it. whew*
