Check the transcipt carefully before the school sends it out!

<p>Our school (public in CA) gives the kids their transcript every Fall starting sophomore year and the counselors meet with the kids to fill out a plan for college and make sure they are on track for graduation. Parents should start going over the transcripts then because mistakes are made. D had a mistake in a geometry grade given in 8th grade that transferred over from Jr. high school that was on her transcript! Since 8th grade algebra and geometry are listed on most college apps, we had to get this fixed, we thought it was fixed in Jr. High but it didn’t transfer over correctly. Kind of a pain after two years. It would have been the only “B” on her transcript even though it wasn’t calculated into GPA. It was important to her to have it fixed. Anyway, if a school doesn’t give transcripts out, I suggest the student/parent request it starting sophomore year, and for sure at the beginning or Sr. year just to make sure everything is accounted for and dealt with before apps are due.</p>

<p>We thought this was taken care of. We had numerous meetings about the grades, and how the school would count them because the courses were taken outside the school. In the end, no one looked at the other transcript and transferred the grades correctly…</p>

<p>I posted that on Sept. 29, 2008. How wild! When we sent an updated transcript to Son’s school this February, the admissions officer emailed that he was bumping up the merit aid because he had just figured out that “APTACS2” was AP Computer Science, so it counted as an extra year of math. Had I not sent the updated transcript to give the school a “second look” at the ridiculous abbreviations, Son would have missed out on $1000 a year!</p>
