Check your Financial Aid on MyUCF

Some scholarships & grants are showing up on my daughter's MyUCF (click Financial Aid then 2009). Thought everyone might want to check. Love seeing those numbers!

Oh yeah ... I remember when that happened last year. I loved seeing numbers, too. :)

zebes

Yes....all those years of nagging about grades.....finally paying off!

Cool, but can you help me understand this?

HAS Pegasus Sch 08-09 Scholarship 2,500.00

Cool, but they haven't sent me a letter yet to accept this scholarship! :( And I already sent them an email about it.

EST BF Fla Academic Sch (Fall) Scholarship 1,942.00
EST BF Fla Academic Sch (Spr) Scholarship 1,942.00

Bright Futures gotcha.

Estimated Subsidized Stafford Loan 3,500.00

Now what's this, is this my expected loan amount assuming my parents pay nothing?

Aid Year Totals 9,884.00

So did you not go on MyUCF and accept the Pegasus Scholarship? I know my daughter had to log on and either accept, reject or postpone the offer. The Estimated Subsidized Stafford Loan is the amount of subsidized loan that you qualified for (I'm pretty sure that because it is subsidized, it is interest free). You (obviously) do not have to accept that if you don't want it. Sometime later in March you will receive a form from the financial aid office listing these items with an option of rejecting anything you don't want or need.

I clicked Financial Aid and the only thing under it is Student Center... clicked that and it's just the standard default window.

In my To-Do List an option has appeared in the past week or so. It says certification statement 08-09. When I click on it it tells me I have to complete some financial aid forms online... but then I click the link and there's nothing to fill out.

I already filed FAFSA and all that stuff... so I have no idea what this is and why it won't let me go anywhere once I click their link. Any ideas?

Don't click on the Financial Aid link that is in the list on the left side of the screen. Scroll down and look in the center section (all blue writing) until you see "View Financial Aid" in the Finances section. You will then click on
"2009". For the Certification Statement, go to the UCF Homepage, then Admissions, then Financial Aid. You need to then go to Forms then 2009-2009 Forms. You will see Certification Statement. It can be filled out online.

That certainly clears up a lot. Thanks, #1bandmom.

So this FL Student Assistant Grant... I'm assuming that's FAFSA at work?

Yes....isn't it great???

Okay, I know this is simply a refusal to accept on my part, but I have some questions about my daughter's FAFSA.

1)The EFC, please tell me that's NOT an expected yearly contribution. If that's the case, I should be able to afford a brand new car every year on a teacher's salary.

2) What is the DRN? It's listed on the upper right corner of my daughter's student aid report, right under that obscene expected family contribution.

Thanks!

Okay, I got the answer to the DRN but I'm still confused about the EFC.

Zoot - I searched through some different threads on different forums to see what answer I could come up with for you. I don't know how to link you to them Check in the Financial Aid forum on CC. Just do a search and type in EFC. Many different threads are listed.

Yes, the EFC is what is expected. Everyone's is outrageous, and that's just what they suggest.

You won't actually pay this... believe me, my mom's a single mom without a degree and two kids in college. There's no way she can contribute to each of us what FAFSA said.

Thanks #1bandmom, I didn't know that I had to accept the scholarship on the myucf page, all they told me was I was going to recieve a letter.

I was under the impression I was getting the 100% Bright Futures award but I have just been notified by email that I'm only eligible for the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars award.

I have this listed under my Financial Aid Status...

EST BF Fla Academic Sch (Fall) Scholarship 1,942.00
EST BF Fla Academic Sch (Spr) Scholarship 1,942.00

Is that 75% or 100%?

That's 100%.

You'd better e-mail bright futures about this.

I talked to my counselor. It was because I hadn't completed my 2nd foreign language class. I just finished it online at FLVS so she said that Bright Futures will update it to 100% in June.

I have a question about Bright Futures. Right now UCF has me estimated at 100% BF, but I got an email from the Bright Futures people saying that I needed to accept my "75%" award. This is probably because my last few hours STILL haven't been registered on my profil (turned it in early feburary mind you). What should I do? Should I try to accept the 75% and upgrade to 100 or what. I also need to call them to help figure this out, and harass my school's administration to get my hours in.

You need to get in contact with your guidance department at school because they upload all of your information digitally to the Bright Futures database. It's likely they didn't bother to update it again after your service hours. They're probably they're waiting until the end of the year to finalize everything they send to Bright Futures, but you should definitely check with them NOW, and keep "reminding" them two or three times a week, and checking your Bright Futures account online as well, to make sure they do it. I know some guidance offices have trouble getting things done on time.
