Check your financial aid package

If you go to the prospective student portal and then go to your financial aid award link and go forward a year you can see your package.

After seeing my package I do not think that I will be attending. I received a 15000 dollar per year deans scholarship, 6100 per year in grants, 5626 dollars in loans and 2000 a year in Federal Work Study. It ends up being only around 28726 dollars per year. I dont think I’ll be able to come up with an extra ~10,000 dollars, especially when I can go to Loyola for close to nothing

lol, I don't have an award package. Does that mean I lose? Grrreaat.

My daughter just checked hers...it's not there either, I wouldn't worry alan, just wait until the snail mail comes.

they are probably just starting to post the awards online. I was accepted by email recently, but mine isn't on there. I wish it was! I'm anxious about it.

yeah mine isnt on there either.... I hope that doesn't mean I'm not getting one or basically that means no college for me! haha

last spring my finaid didn't show up immediately on the portal. others posted that their packages were online and there was nothing showing up on my portal. a few days later my merit aid (i didn't apply for need-based) appered.

Alright so i didnt even recieve an email but as you know i got an email address so i know i got in. I got 15K a year from a merit scholarship and my really talented friend got 25K a year from a merit scholarship(but he did recieve an email). Thats pretty good! Of course I got nothing from the government and while I got a federally unsubsidized loan im not going to take it. This makes the decision very interesting!

Is AU freaking kidding me? They gave me only 20,000. Where the hell am I suppose to get the extra 20 grand?

if thats 20K in merit aid, that is not that bad. Most schools cost 35K OOS with no merit aid offered. Unless you have outstanding stats, im not sure what the problem is.

Jessy...If the $20,000 is merit aid you should be thankful. Tuition is around $28,000, 20 grand would be a heck of a nice scholarship. I understand that when room & board is added in there is still a lot left to pay, but there aren't a whole lot of scholarships that cover everything out there no matter what school you apply to. Good luck!

Ryan..congrats on the scholarship, if you don't mind can you post your stats? As I've said before my daughters portal doesn't have anything yet, but I would love to get some idea of how the merit money is determined.

Yankeegirl my stats were 3.5 UW GPA, 2120 SAT, and many AP's with good scores. 15K

My friend had roughly a 3.9 UW with a 2230 and he got 25K merit.

Of course with my EFC I didnt need any money, so it was definitely a pleasant surprise. My parents are really frugal.

If your interested I had ~3.7UW average and my SAT was a 1400/2010

Are grants need based or merit based?

grants are need based.

i got accepted with honors into their program with the big wave of emails, but my online portal never changed to show my admission status. my friend who also got accepted told me that scholarships were posted in the portal the other day, but i still don't have anything posted in mine. i didn't apply for financial aid, so that might have something to do with it, but my stats are really competitive for scholarships. my friend got $25000 a year, and his stats were very similar to mine:
34 ACT
99.6 avg
15/almost 500 rank
did something like this happen to anyone else?
i havent recieved the paper acceptance yet... but that seems like a lot of people havent. i'm confused about why it isnt in my portal- should it only be in the admitted students portal? im so confused, i have an au id in my prospective portal, but nothing else. ergh any help would be great thanks

bway..my daughter was also accepted via email to honors and also has the stats for scholarship $. Her portal has not been updated either. We are waiting for the paper acceptance figuring that they have not uploaded everyone's financial info yet. I wouldn't worry.

It's not merit aid, it is need based, and that 20,000 is my financial package (loans, grants, work study). My EFC is 0, my parents make around 30,000 a year, so I guess I won't be attending next year unless I win the lottery.
Does AU meet financial need 100%? I know that when schools say that, they will still give you loans but I mean at least they give you options and everything. AU just gave me a package of 20,000 and doesn't tell me where I can get the extra 20 grands. BTW, that's including loans and everything. The AU grant was I think either 5,000 or 10,000.

according to the college board, American meets approx. 60% of your demonstrated need.

http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=393&profileId=2

AU met all of my need, although the actual FC that the FAFSA said my family can pay is a bit of a stretch. Though unfortunatly no Merit aid...though a good 14000 in grants which makes me happy...and then the rest in loans, up to 21000. not terrible. my parents are ok with it. It definitly could have been worse.

21,000 dollars in loans per year? That's still a lot.
