so is anyone else slightly disappointed in their package? duke barely met my need. is duke relatively conservative in financial aid, or are other top colleges comparative to this?

Use your email, and some password that comes to your mind? My password ended up being one that I use for everything, but I don’t remember EVER using it for Duke…

Duke was on par with WUSTL in terms of financial aid (pretty bad). It was better than Vanderbilt or USC (which was REALLY bad).

OMG!!! I got 47,000 in grants, plus 4300 Pell Grant!!! Duke has officially become the cheapest school for me to attend. Forget Chicago and the 21,000 it would cost me to go there.

Ugh, I hate this. There were some expletives in the last sentence that I won’t post here.

hmm…so my usual password isnt working…
Ive checked all my emails and they are all vague…my fin aid email just said you will use your email and a chosen pw…but i never chose one…

windhitsong, it needs both upper and lowercase letters. Maybe you forgot the combo?
And I don’t have a financial aid award because it’s telling me that the STudent Non-Filer form is missing (don’t even know what that is?) and the Business taxes, but I sent those in like two weeks ago. My mom spoke directly to the aid office. ugh

Wow, so apparently, Duke really does guarantee NO loans under $80,000… But I really feel like a piece of you know what for still being hesitant to go to Duke over a state school… This is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

hmm 2,100 for tuition, 2000 in a loan, 2000 for workstudy, and 50,000!! in grants. The first time in my life where i’ve been happy that I do not have that much money

are grants need based?

I got 0 my parents are expected to play everything… which I feel terrible about because we are certainly not rich… walmart was “expensive” when i was growing up

All my tabs, including the expected family contribution, say that I got nothing. I think it might be because I wasn’t able to turn in the non-custodial parent forms (I can’t get in touch with my dad at all). Should I email them about it or something? My family income’s quite a bit below 100k, so if I get no aid, Duke’s definitely out for me…

Yeah, grants are need based. And are you sure you filled out all your forms correctly? Did you put down you had more assets than you really do? I would definitely look into all that!

On anybody elses to-do list is everything past date and incomplete?

ahhh wowowowowow nearly 52000 in grants!!! <3 duke!

$54,130 in grants!!! I’m assuming this covers basically everything amirite?

I received the following: You have no financial aid awards available for viewing in this aid year. (We still have to submit 2009.) I am so nervous I can’t type. Do you all that have everything completed on your to-do list receive the same message? Oh noooooooooooo. Oh noooooo.

PS Congrats to you all.

Hi, it says “Ext’l Awds Reported by Student” for 40,000. I did not report any external awards I would recieve amounting to this amount. Can anyone tell me why this is? Does this mean I need to call them? Is this a mistake? Please say so, because I cannot afford 40,000 a year…

Total Expected Contribution
102,099.00 0.00

Me too…***?

I just called them and now have 45000 in grants and 5000 in a Pell Grant! This is phenomenol aid!

total student budget: 56,000+
financial aid in grants: 8,000

… sigh

does anyone know how i can up the amount i can receive in grants? my family doesn’t have a lot of money so we can’t pay for all that… i thought i’d receive more financial aid because i thought it was need-based?
