calidan - are you sure you want to start Portuguese?! lol ... I'm half Portuguese myself ... and the language just annoys me ... haha, although, I must say that if you know Portuguese, you can basically understand other languages b/c it draws from so many cultures & languages.

I guess I'm biased though ... whenever I speak Portuguese it's w/ my grandmother or grandfather ... who are usually trying to convince me into dating their neighbor. lol ...

i plan to start learning Portuguese too!

my friend is from Brazil and I love when she talks, it sounds like music :)
my Spanish sounds so lame in comparison lol

Philosphia- I totally want to learn Portuguese. One of my big goals in life is to be able to converse competently in French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese (I'm done with 2.5/4). I simply love romance languages. :)

And starrey- maybe we'll be in an intro class together (hopefully!!!!!)!

calidan - it's your funeral (lol) ... but if you see an older, short (5'1-ish) Portuguese woman in a green smock trying to set you up with someone ... don't say I didn't warn you... ;) I admire your goal though.

starryeyedgirl - I like Brazilian Portuguese better ... when my cousins from Brazil come up I like to listen to them talk ... can't say I understand it 100% b/c it can be so different at points ... but it's more flowing then the Portuguese I learned...

Compare

"Mignonne, allons voir si la rose
Qui ce matin avait declose..."
(Ode a Cassandre, Pierre de Ronsard)

to

"...sprawling suddenly across the handful of rotten bones that Addie Bundren left, jarring the whole bed into a chattering sibilance of mattress shucks..."
(As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner)

French (and all romance languages) just sounds so much better than English.

And philosophia - One of my best friends is from Brazil. When he and his family talk in Portuguese to each other, it's just sounds... awesome. Even when they're telling each other to shut up, it sounds cool.

I can see I'm out numbered ...

I'll guess it's just me not appreciating the language ... lol ... like I think Punjabi is awesome (the actual script and the pronunciation), but my friend says she hates it.

maybe it's b/c my grandparents insist on calling me "Gracinha" instead of "Grace" ... ok, compromise: so Portuguese is kind of cool sounding, but it's still a little annoying. ;)

no, i was agreeing with you in that brazilian portuguese sounds beautiful. :)

oh, okay. haha ... I really do think brazilian Portuguese is beautiful ...

it's funny how Portuguese people hate brazilian Portuguese though ... I can't tell you how many times I've heard about the shame of brazil for making Portuguese slang. lol.

LOL... I think all Romance languages sound beautiful. My lab partner for chemistry last year was from Brazil and I kept making her say random stuff because it sounded so cool. The only thing I remember that she taught to me was how to say "I don't speak Portuguese." I don't know how to write it, though, so I won't even try... :p

I had a korean girl in my math class a few years ago and she taught me how to say "f*** the police..."

calidan - don't kill me b/c my spelling might be off (I can't spell in english, let alone Portuguese!), but ... I think it's

Eu n

Hm... I was going to say "eu no falleu portugues" so I was kinda close... :o

I sent my application around the end of Dec and I still havn't gotten the PIN and ID to check everything online....But I called the school a few weeks ago and they said everything was complete...I tried to create an account at the website to access their decision but this seems to be of no help...does anyone know how to get around it? Or can I just call the admissions office to ask about the pin info. etc?

Call the tech support phone # listed on the website and they will hook you up.
