<p>So basically, I forgot to check out of housing (in the dorms) before I left for winter break (yes I know, its pretty dumb). So I was wondering if anyone knows what happens if you don't check out (do they care, is there a penalty/fine, etc.)?</p>

<p>When I went to check out last winter they just took my card and didn’t write anything down or have me sign anything. I can’t believe that counted as checking out, but there was no punishment or anything when I got back.</p>
<p>The main thing is to make sure you don’t confuse your old room key for the new one you’ll receive.</p>
<p>I’m a front desk supervisor. Whether you check out with us or not, we end up checking everyone out of housing on on the last day, we pull your reg card, recycle your key, and prepare everything for check in again. It’s a VERY tedious and unnecessary task.</p>
