checking the wrong box

I was wondering what happens if you check the wrong ethnicity box. i.e. native american instead of white.

Do or can they check?
Does it improve your chances?

I ask because I was wondering if i would have a better chance of getting in if i checked one of the other boxes.

lol, if you checked native american, im 100% sure they are going to ask you what tribe you are from.

...... lol.... did you do something like this deliberately or by accident? :)

lol what the heck

interesting you ""ACCIDENTALLY"" choose the most URM and you didn't ""ACCIDENTALLY"" choose asian hah

the most interesting thing is that he comes on here and asks, "does it improve your chances" lol! thats great!!

you know i hate how significant the difference probably is between the cutoff for accepting an asian versus a native american applicant

if you put down native american, you have to report what tribe you are from and you have to tell the admissions office your registration number, which they have to verify with the bureau of indian affairs

^^^yeah which sucks because I actually am part Native American but I don't know the tribe...

i just left that part unasnwered...do you think that will affect my chances?

i was just curious. A friend of mine kept getting rejected from nursing schools and she had a 3.8 all a's and b's, no w's etc. she got rejected on all the applications she checked the white box. Finally, on one of them, i think she selected african american and got in!! I was just using native american as an example. I am just curious if schools use affirmative action?

I believe that stands for grounds of fraud and it might give the school the option to expel you or deny you registration, be careful on that subject.

well, if she checked the african american box it's likely that they'll rescind her admission once she steps foot on campus and they see that she's not black - it's not an easy thing to fake. :D

Even if they find out after she graduates they can take away her degree.

hahaha ouch.

i doubt there going to check. They have better things to do then do full background searches on everyone. People fib here and there on there apps all the time. You could argue the otherway too. It is supposed to be an optional question and if they were to expel you because you were not a certain color they could be faced with a huge lawsuit. i believe in california, affirmative action is illegal. But not sure, they may have changed it.

hmmm. well you are very obviously fishing for a fight but ignoring that...lol Did your friend apply to a school in California? If so then that question was not even looked at by the comittee.

Please reread my post so that you can see that I did not say that they do full background searches on anyone. I said if they did find out they can take back her diploma on account of dishonesty. My statement is 100% correct. Also she signed a document saying that she was telling the truth when she knew full well that she was lying. This is called fraud. Look it up. :)

Now if she had chosen not to answer that would be different but that is not what she did. She deliberately lied. Also she obviously was lacking in some other area of her application if every school but one did not accept her. Unless you are saying that nobody of her particular race was admitted which of course would be a silly statement. Basically if you are dumb enough to think fraud is ok than you are probably dumb enough to get caught.

Also people "fib here and there" on their resumes and you know what happens when their work finds out...they either do not get the job or if they already have it they can get fired. It is not that every employer looks at every little detail. It is just that these little white lies (or not so little) have a way of finding their way to the surface.

what about all those white people from south africa? I mean if at least one of their parents were from there cant they then consider themselves african? Cause the application is asking what ethnicity do you consider yourself and you could consider yourself african over white right?
