Cheerleading

I have never been a cheerleader before but having played tennis for quite some time now, tennis is quite “brain active”. There are so many components to tennis (i.e. slice, top spin, correct positioning, serving) that make it really fun and challenging. When playing against another opponent, it’s like a game of physical and mental chess.

is cheerleading considered a sport?

^HS cheerleading? No, it’s not competitive. Professional cheerleading? Well, golf is considered a sport, so what can you say?

there are professional cheerleaders?

There isn’t professional cheerleading, but there is competitive cheerleading (not the same thing as high school cheerleading). The level of cheerleading that is equal to the professional level of another sport is called All-Stars Cheerleading. Part of the reason why it’s not called professional cheerleading or professional gymnastics (versus elite gymnastics) is because the athletes aren’t paid and because most of the time, the very best are only high school age. Like in the Olympics, the gymnasts you see (at least the female) are usually about 16 years old. Sometimes the cheerleaders for professional sports teams (ie: football or basketball) are called professional cheerleaders, but what they’re doing is not really the same as All-Stars Cheerleading.

Incorrect. There is a competitive side of high school cheerleading.

haha i never cheerleaded. i play soccer, dance, and i’m a coxswain [in zee sport ohf CREW].

Edit: um, yeah… cheerleaders for professional sports teams are professional cheerleaders. That’s their job.

nahh i play varsity girls soccer
cheerleading at my school is lame

I was a cheerleader since I was eleven until this year. I did competitive cheer and I got dropped from ten feet during a lift. I got a really really bad concussion and had to drop school for two and a half months.

Which is?

Many, many high schools compete every year. This one is the biggest, most prestigious high school cheerleading championship in the country:

[Universal Cheerleaders Association :: High School Nationals](http://uca.varsity.com/Nationals.aspx)

My school’s cheerleading team is one of the best in the state/province, perhaps also nationally high-ranked.

They’re good. :)

my school’s team sucks at the actual cheerleading part, but they do cool leadership and community service stuff, and they come to at least some meets for all sporting events, even things like cross country. We’ve got some pretty damn smart girls on the team too.

^ I agree. The stereotype of ‘dumb cheerleaders’ is pretty outdated.
